Cavani & Suarez make the cut as Uruguay finalise Olympic squadThe forwards will get the chance to star, but goalkeeper Fernando Muslera will watch from home after Egidio Arevalo was preferred to the Galatasaray man
Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez have both been included in Uruguay's squad for the upcoming Olympic Games, as the Napoli and Liverpool men aim to bring their nation gold in London.
The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) confirmed on Monday the 18 players who will fight for the Olympic title in 2012, with Cavani and Suarez taking up two of the allocated three places for over-age members.
In somewhat of a surprise, the third spot went not to goalkeeper Fernando Muslera but to combative midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios.
Other Europe-based players to make the cut include Bologna talent Gaston Ramirez and Nicolas Lodeiro of Ajax in midfield, while Abel Hernandez will have the chance to stake a claim to a regular place in the senior side when, in the absence of Diego Forlan, he joins Cavani and Suarez in the trio most likely to start in attack.
Meanwhile, defensive responsibilities will fall to the highly-rated duo of Diego Polenta and Sebastian Coates. Coates, 21, came to prominence when he was voted the best young player in the 2011 Copa America, while Genoa's Polenta gained many admirers during an accomplished loan spell with Bari last season.
Uruguay will start their campaign on July 26 against the United Arab Emirates in Wembley, before taking on Senegal and hosts Great Britain in Group A.
