Goodbye and good luck!
Club bids official farewell to Butt & Co
Tuesday’s friendly against the Netherlands was the last match of the 2011/12 campaign, and also the final outing in an FCB shirt for six members of the squad: Jörg Butt is retiring, and Breno, Danijel Pranjic, Takashi Usami, Ivica Olic and Rouven Sattelmaier leave the club on 30 June. The six were officially sent on their way prior to kick-off by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, deputy chairman Karl Hopfner and director of sport Christian Nerlinger.
Keeper Jörg Butt led out the side as captain in the final game of his professional career. Since arriving from Lisbon giants Benfica for the 2008/09 campaign, the 37-year-old made 91 appearances for Munich and won the domestic double in 2010. Butt takes over from long-serving official Werner Kern as head of the junior team youth section on 1 July.
Olic off to Wolfsburg
Danijel Pranjic joined FCB from Heerenveen in 2009, finishing with one goal in 85 matches. The Croatia international was also a double winner in 2010 but his contract expires in June. The 30-year-old utility man is currently looking for a new club.
By contrast, his fellow countryman Ivica Olic has already found a new employer in the shape of VfL Wolfsburg. The 32-year-old Ivi joined Bayern from Hamburg in 2009 and scored 23 goals in 80 appearances for the Reds. The Croat’s best spell came in the 2009/10 double-winning season, when he scored seven Champions League goals in a major contribution to his side reaching the final against Inter Milan.
Breno dogged by bad luck
There was also a farewell to Breno, arguably the most unlucky man at the club in recent years. The Brazilian joined in January 2008 from Sao Paulo, but a string of serious injuries, including a torn cruciate while on loan to Nürnberg, restricted the talented defender to just 33 appearances for FCB. The 22-year-old did not play at all in 2011/12, and his next step is currently undecided.
The future is also wide open for Takashi Usami and Rouven Sattelmaier. 20-year-old Japan junior international Usami arrived in Bavaria last summer on loan from Gamba Osaka and scored one goal in five senior appearances, adding another six goals in 18 fourth-tier outings for FC Bayern II. He played in the reserves alongside keeper Sattelmaier, who finished on a total of 26 appearances for FCB II after joining the club from Regensburg in the summer of 2010.
fcbayern.de wishes all the players bon voyage and best of luck for the future.
