Kranjcar completes Kiev switch
Croatian playmaker leaves Spurs after a six-year stay in EnglandLast Updated: June 7, 2012 3:22pm
Dynamo Kiev have announced that Croatia international Niko Kranjcar has joined the club from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
The 27-year-old playmaker revealed on Wednesday that Spurs had reached an agreement with Dynamo over a deal.
Kranjcar had been looking for a route out of White Hart Lane after finding first-team football hard to come by.
It was expected that he would be on the move this summer, and he will be plying his trade in the Ukraine from 2012/13.
Kranjcar is currently away on international duty at Euro 2012, but he has agreed terms with Dynamo and they have confirmed that a transfer has been pushed through.
Contract
"After successful negotiations, Niko Kranjcar has signed a four-year contract with Dynamo Kiev," read a statement on the club's official website.
Kranjcar heads to the Ukrainian capital following a six-year stay in England.
He was snapped up by Portsmouth in 2006 and won the FA Cup during his time at Fratton Park.
Former Pompey boss Harry Redknapp took him to Tottenham in September 2009 but, despite being a regular early on in his Spurs career, he slowly slipped down the pecking order in North London.
"I think it's important for me to go and play first-team football," Kranjcar told Sky Sports News HD.
"I have got the opportunity to do that with Dynamo Kiev, a team that is fighting for a Champions League place, which is also an important thing.
Challenge
"I believe I will play first-team football, which is the most important thing, and it's a massive club with great support and a big history.
"I am looking forward to a new challenge and I am happy that I spent six great years in England."
On those he leaves behind at White Hart Lane, Kranjcar added: "It's been great. I wanted to play more but I played with some unbelievable footballers.
"Harry has been a big part in my career, he brought me to Portsmouth and believed in me there, we had a great FA Cup win and results with Portsmouth, and then he took me to Spurs as well.
"I had a great first season where I played a lot of games but the last two were quite disappointing and I really wanted to play football."
