Swansea win fight for Chelsea's McEachran

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has agreed a loan deal with Chelsea for England Under-21 midfield starlet Josh McEachran.

Rodgers used his old Chelsea connections to see off interest from Aston Villa to snap up the 18-year-old in time for him to face Arsenal next Sunday.

McEachran is highly thought of at Chelsea and the loan spell is designed to give him first team experience so he can establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

Exclusive: Spurs in for £22m striker (with video)

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is making a new bid to sign striker Loic Remy – but Marseille want a staggering £22million for him.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has opened negotiations with Marseille, despite the French side's qualification for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

Remy has been on Redknapp’s radar for 18 months and a deal looked likely until they surprisingly qualified for the last 16 of Europe’s money-spinning competition.

Now, Spurs are offering Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko plus £7m for Remy - valuing their unwanted hitman at a staggering £15m.

Marseille will sell former Nice forward Remy if the money is right, but they would rather have straight cash so they can recruit a replacement of their own choosing.

Pavlyuchenko has been more out than in at White Hart Lane and his valuation has taken Marseille by surprise, but the fact that the clubs are talking is a healthy sign for Redknapp.

Levy is looking to move out several players to balance the books in the winter window, so Spurs may increase their cash offer for Remy if they can find homes for Pavyuchenko and midfield duo Steven Pienaar and Nico Kranjcar.

United & Spurs leading race for Toon star

Manchester United and Tottenham have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to sign in-form Newcastle striker Demba Ba.

The 26-year-old has scored 15 times in 19 league appearances for the Magpies this term, to add to the seven goals he netted during his brief spell with West Ham.

That makes it 22 goals in 27 Barclays Premier League starts for Ba and now, it would seem, he is attracting the interest of clubs with greater stature.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United and Spurs are leading the race to sign the Senegal international, who has left Newcastle temporarily for the Africa Cup of Nations.

And, although Sir Alex Ferguson or Harry Redknapp would be unable to secure a deal for Ba this month, they have reportedly been alerted to his potential availability in the summer.

It is claimed the former Hoffenheim forward has a release clause of £7 million written into his Newcastle contract - seemingly a fee which would be met easily by Manchester United or Spurs.

However, noveau-riche French outfit Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in Ba, who would be keen on a move to the Parc des Princes.

“I have always supported PSG and it’s an attractive club,” he said.

“But it will be difficult to do that in January. I’m in Newcastle and the fans like me.

"The transfer market will be closed when I return from the Africa Cup of Nations so I won’t focus on it.”

Didier Drogba has been made a huge offer to follow Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka to Shanghai Shenhua.

The Chinese club are proposing an incredible two-and-a half-year basic package, plus image rights, goal bonuses and success incentives that would make the striker one of the best paid players in the world.

Newcastle ready to buy back Carroll (report)

Newcastle are willing to buy Andy Carroll back off Liverpool, according to reports.

The England striker left his native north-east for Anfield in a shock £35m deal last January, but has struggled to find his best form and has scored only four league goals for the Reds.

However, stories now claim Newcastle are ready to bring him 'home' - although for a fee that's less than half what Liverpool paid.

Arsenal fail with bid for defender

Arsenal have had an approach for Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho knocked back.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to bring in a left-back on loan and was keen on the 24-year-old French international.

However, Lyon have made it clear that they are not willing to do a loan deal - but will sell for £8million.

Wenger though has insisted he will not do a permanent deal as he still has faith in currently injured pair Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs.

Santos is out until at least March and Gibbs is hoping to be back this month, while Thomas Vermaelen, who can play left-back, is targeting the Manchester United game on January 22 fo a comeback, so Wenger is only interested in a short term fix.

Defender Johan Djourou is fit to return at Swansea on Sunday, which will ease the blow of losing Francis Coquelin for up to three weeks to a hamstring injury suffered against Leeds on Monday.
