Ryan Nelsen's agent has confirmed that his client has been released from his contract by Blackburn, paving the way for him to join Tottenham. It emerged late on transfer deadline day that Spurs were looking to reach an agreement for the New Zealand international.
Harry Redknapp announced that he was looking to bring Nelsen on board as a free agent, with Sebastien Bassong having been allowed to link up with Wolves on loan.
No deal was finalised on Tuesday, but the deadline no longer applies as the centre-half has seen his contract at Blackburn terminated by mutual consent.
He is now clear to sign for Spurs outside of the transfer window, and his representative is confident all of the loose ends will be tied up in the coming days.
Lyle Yorks, Nelsen's Washington-based representative from James Grant Sports, told the Washington Post: "We settled with Blackburn and have reached agreement with Spurs.
"We're just awaiting clearance. It's for six months, with a one-year option. It all unfolded quickly."
