Arsenal's Boxing Day clash with Wolves could be moved

Arsenal will monitor talks between tube drivers and London Underground amid the possibility their Boxing Day match against Wolves could be under threat due to a planned strike.

The Gunners have sold all 60,000 tickets available for the game at Emirates Stadium, but access to the ground for both supporters and the club's 1,000 matchday employees could be restricted if planned strikes go ahead.

Drivers have scheduled a 24-hour walkout on Boxing Day and on three other days over the next two months.

Situation

"We would like to make all supporters aware of the situation surrounding our proposed home match against Wolves on Monday 26th December," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The club is fully aware of the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Monday 26th December.

"We are closely monitoring the situation, together with all the relevant agencies, including the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London, London Underground, the FA Premier League, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Islington Council.

"The paramount concern to Arsenal Football Club is the duty of care we have towards the Arsenal supporters, Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters, matchday employees and indeed everyone who is planning to attend this match.

"Any decisions or developments regarding this match will be immediately communicated on Arsenal.com."

Hope

The 2,200 members of trade union Aslef agreed to strike on Boxing Day, January 16th, February 3rd and 13th in a ballot last week.

That decision is being challenged by London mayor Boris Johnson in the high court and there is hope that an agreement can be reached to prevent the strike.

It is understood Arsenal could put the fixture back by 24 hours if the planned strike goes ahead.

Stamford Bridge club in talks over possible London Underground strike

Chelsea are consulting relevant authorities amid the possibility their Boxing Day match against Fulham could be under threat due to a planned strike on London Underground.

Drivers have scheduled a 24-hour walkout on 26th December and on three other days over the next two months.

The strike could have an impact on Chelsea's game against Fulham at Stamford Bridge by hampering the travel of fans, matchday staff and club employees.

Arsenal have already confirmed they are in talks with authorities and now Chelsea have announced they are also holding discussions.

A statement read: "Chelsea football club would like to make clear that we are consulting with London Transport, the Metropolitan Police and all relevant local authorities regarding our Barclays Premier League fixture with Fulham at Stamford Bridge on December 26.

"At present, a proposed industrial strike on London Underground, combined with the lack of national rail services in operation could make reaching the stadium difficult both for Chelsea and Fulham supporters, as well as matchday staff and employees, all of whose safety and wellbeing remains our primary concern.

"Any further decisions or developments will be made public first through Chelseafc.com."

Arsenal v Wolves moved

Arsenal have moved their Boxing Day clash at the Emirates with Wolves by 24 hours, due to the proposed industrial action on London's transport network.

A statement on the club's official website read: "As a result of the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Monday, December 26, our home Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, originally planned for Boxing Day, has been postponed.

"Arsenal v Wolverhampton Wanderers will now take place 24 hours later on Tuesday, December 27 (a public holiday), kick-off 3pm at Emirates Stadium.

"This decision has had to be made now, before the result of the legal challenge to the proposed industrial action is finally known, due to the preparation period needed to safely operate Emirates Stadium by all the relevant agencies.

"The Club has been liaising closely in order to make this decision, with all the relevant agencies, including the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London, London Underground, The FA Premier League, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Islington Council.

"The paramount concern was always the duty of care towards the Arsenal supporters, Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters, Matchday employees, workers and indeed everyone who was planning to attend the match on Boxing Day.

"In addition to the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Boxing Day, there would also have been no services operating on overground train services into London on this day. Also, normal parking restrictions close to the stadium would have still applied. This would have caused severe disruption, or at worst, inability for supporters or Matchday employees and workers to get to Emirates Stadium.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused supporters, but we feel that the right decision has been made based on a duty of care. All tickets purchased for this match are still valid for Tuesday, December 27."
