PSV sign Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink will be wearing the PSV jersey for the rest of the season after signing a new contract with the club. The striker, who won three Eredivisie titles in a five-year spell with PSV (2001-2006), will be eligible to play next weekend.

After his first stint at the Philips Stadion, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink played for Celtic, Hull City and Rapid Vienna Wien. The 32-year-old, capped 19 times by his country, won three Eredivisie titles in a five-year spell with PSV (2001-2006) and lifted the KNVB Cup in 2005. During his spell in Scotland, he won the league title and the Cup twice with Celtic. “Jan and the club both wanted this very much”, explained PSV´s technical manager Marcel Brands. “He has a lot to thank the club for and wants to give something back. PSV know what he can do and he knows what is expected of him in his new role. He will provide experienced backup for the striker position and his experience will also be felt by youngsters like Jürgen Locadia en Ruben Bentancourt.”

PSV have completed the signing of Vennegoor of Hesselink on a free transfer. The striker, who has kept fit by training with PSV lately, is now a first-team squad player.
Head coach Fred Rutten repeatedly stated that he was eager to bolster his attacking options with the signing of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who said: “I’m really happy to have signed a new contract with PSV. To make a return to PSV gives me a good feeling. I just want to enjoy my football. We have a good squad now, with youngsters who are eager to learn and gain experience and have the potential to make it to the first team. I want to play my part in the club’s push for successes this year. It’s great to wear the PSV jersey again!”, concluded Vennegoor of Hesselink.
