Lille interested in Chelsea's Salomon Kalou - report

The French club are considering a last-minute move for the Ivorian star, who has dropped down the pecking order at the Premier League club following new arrivals

Aug 29, 2011 8:25:00 PM

Lille are weighing up the merits of a move for Chelsea winger Salomon Kalou, L'Equipe reports.
The Ligue 1 champions are believed to be in the market for an attacking reinforcement after being rebuffed in their chase of Monaco's Park Chu-Young, who made a u-turn on his decision to move to the Stade Lille-Metropole to link up with Arsenal.

It was suggested that Lille had set their sights on Sevilla midfielder Romaric, but the 28-year-old's wage demands have reportedly made the club look elsewhere.

Kalou, who joined Chelsea from Feyenoord in 2006, has been deemed surplus to requirements at the club and was not even included in the squad for Saturday's 3-1 victory against Norwich City.

The Ivory Coast international is aware that his first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge will remain limited following the arrival of Juan Mata and he may consider a new challenge in order to find regular action.

However, it is believed that Lille president Michel Seydoux is unwilling to break the bank in order to sign Kalou, which could prove a stumbling block for the transfer.

Meanwhile, Rudi Garcia's side are set to sign Ireneusz Jelen on a free transfer. The Pole is still without a club after leaving Auxerre in the summer, and has been undergoing rigorous medical checks after missing so much of the last three years due to physical problems.

The French club, who are currently seventh in Ligue 1, have been drawn alongside Inter, CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor in the Champions League.

Manchester City attempted to sign AC Milan's Mark van Bommel - agent

The Premier League outfit tried to lure the Netherlands international away from San Siro, but their approach was firmly rejected, according to the player's representative

Aug 30, 2011 9:27:00 AM
By Stefan Coerts

The agent of AC Milan midfielder Mark van Bommel, Mino Raiola, has claimed that Manchester City made an attempt to sign the Netherlands international during the summer transfer window.

The Premier League side are looking to add some more depth to their midfield in order to be able to compete in several competitions right until the end and they saw Van Bommel as the perfect addition.

Nevertheless, Milan swiftly turned down City's approach as they consider the 34-year-old to be an important first team player.

"Manchester City made an approach for Mark, but Milan's response was very clear. He is not for sale at any price," Raiola said to Voetbal International.

"City were looking to add to their ranks because they will be without Yaya Toure for a while during the African Cup of Nations. They know that Mark forms an excellent partnership with Nigel de Jong. That's why they made an approach for him."

Van Bommel joined Milan from Bayern Munich in January 2011 and helped them to the Serie A title in his first year at San Siro. He has a contract with Milan until the summer of 2012.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce eyeing move for Tottenham's Peter Crouch - report

The Black Cats have managed just one Premier League goal so far this season and are looking to the former Liverpool man to forward to fill the void left by Darren Bent

Aug 29, 2011 6:35:00 PM

Peter Crouch is being targeted by Steve Bruce as the answer to Sunderland’s striking problems, according to The Guardian.
Sunderland have managed just one Premier League goal so far this season, Sebastian Larsson’s superb volley at Anfield, and Bruce is hoping Crouch will add the firepower his side have been lacking.

The Black Cats are yet to replace Darren Bent, who left Wearside for Aston Villa in January, and while Connor Wickham is seen as an investment for the future, Bruce is apparently keen on bringing in another striker.

Crouch has had to settle with a place on the bench at Tottenham recently and has been linked heavily with a move away from White Hart Lane, with Stoke City thought to be keen on the England international, who will be looking for regular football ahead of Euro 2012.

Bolton face Ngog battle

Skysports.com understands Blackburn Rovers are battling with local rivals Bolton Wanderers to sign David Ngog after he rejected a move to Leicester City.

Bolton have spent the past few weeks trying to agree a deal for Ngog, who has not featured in any of Liverpool's games so far this season.

Trotters boss Owen Coyle is keen to improve his attacking options and claimed last week that 'time will tell' whether he can land Ngog before the transfer window closes.

However, there has been late interest in the Frenchman, with ambitious Championship club Leicester making a move for the 22-year-old.

The former Paris St Germain youngster has turned down the chance to join Sven Goran Eriksson's side as he wants to remain in the Premier League.

Blackburn are now understood to have registered a late interest in signing Ngog as Steve Kean seeks to bring in another striker before Wednesday's deadline.

A move for Hoffenheim's Vedad Ibisevic has fallen through and Rovers are now battling it out with Bolton to secure a reported £4million deal for Ngog.

The forward has scored 19 goals in 94 appearances during his time at Anfield, but has been unable to secure a regular starting place.

Bruce targeting Freiburg's Cisse as Sunderland boss seeks answer to striker crisis

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 11:50 PM on 29th August 2011

Steve Bruce is trying again for Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse in a desperate bid to solve Sunderland's goalscoring crisis.

Sportsmail revealed Sunderland wanted the Senegal international earlier this month but they were put off by the German club's demands for £13million.

Sunderland have managed just one goal in their opening three games, a run which has put Bruce's future in doubt and he wants to remedy that by bringing in the forward his team badly needs.

Bayern Munich and Fulham have also shown strong interest in 26-year-old Cisse who has scored 32 goals in 51 games at Freiburg while Blackburn bid £6.5m earlier in the year.

Bruce also remains keen on Tottenham's Peter Crouch and has tried to revive a deal for Wolfsburg's Patrick Helmes. And, in a scatter-gun approach Bruce has also considered a loan for Manchester United's Federico Macheda and a surprise move for Celtic striker Georgios Samaras.

Bruce watched the 26-year-old Greece international earlier this year and considered a move in January. Samaras has Premier League experience having scored 12 goals in 63 appearances for Manchester City before heading north of the border.

The Sunderland manager has signed 10 new players for around £30m already this summer, including two strikers, Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won.

However, Bruce said: 'We've brought in Ji and Wickham as players for the future. We've definitely got two players of potential there but we won't see the best of either of them for a year to 18 months.

'In the meantime we need a bit extra up front. If we're honest we've been a bit lacking in that department since Darren Bent left for Aston Villa last January so we'll do all we can to bring someone in by Wednesday night. We'll just have to try our best and see if it's possible.'

Fulham move for Boateng
Cottagers eye Ghana star

By Graeme Bailey - Tweet me: @skygraemebailey.   Last Updated: August 30, 2011 9:21am

Fulham are in talks to sign Ghana ace Derek Boateng from Dnipro, skysports.com understands.

Boateng only joined the Ukrainian side earlier this summer when he arrived from Getafe in Spain.

West Brom had made a bid for him then, but Boateng instead opted to sign a four-year deal with Dnipro.

But now just a few months into his deal with the Ukrainian club, he could get the chance to move to England.

Fulham knocked Dnipro out of the Europa League earlier this month, and despite being with them - Boateng is understood to have impressed manager Martin Jol.

The Cottagers boss is now hoping Fulham can strike a deal, which would see Boateng arrive in West London.

Having already sealed one permanent deal in this window, Fulham's bid would have to be a loan one with a view to a full transfer.

Now Fulham are believed to be in talks with Dnipro with the hope of thrashing out a deal before Wednesday's deadline.

Trezeguet closes on Bani Yas move

David Trezeguet is set to join Grafite, Luis Jimenez and Lucas Neill as another high-profile foreigner to head to the UAE Pro-League, as he nears a move to Bani Yas.

Bani Yas, runners-up in the league last season, are set to announce the signing of the 33-year-old former World Cup winner on a one-year deal reportedly worth £1.7 million.

A Bani Yas spokesman told Gulf News: "Everything is looking good, the player is in Abu Dhabi, he's taking his medical and is expected to sign Monday night or Tuesday - but I obviously can't confirm if it will go ahead as planned."

Trezeguet, who counts Juventus and Monaco among his former clubs, is available on a free transfer after being released by Spanish club Hercules at the end of last season.

Bhoys strike Baba deal

Maritimo have confirmed they have agreed a fee with Celtic for Senegalese striker Baba Diawara.

Bhoys boss Neil Lennon saw Diawara, known simply as 'Baba', net a last-minute winner for Maritimo in Sunday's surprise 3-2 success over Sporting.

The 23-year-old has attracted interest from around Europe, however, Celtic are in pole position ahead of the transfer window closing on Wednesday.

Maritimo supremo Carlos Pereira is unwilling to discuss details of the deal, believed to be around £4million, stating only an agreement has been reached.

Agreement

"I don't want to talk about the financial details, but I've spoken with Celtic and everything is okay," Pereira told the Daily Record.

"There is an agreement and I'm happy. I also believe that Celtic are happy."

Baba's advisor Karim Lariki claims the likes of Sochaux and Spartak Moscow are interested, although the striker is happy to play in Scotland.

"He has options but I believe that all African players like the idea of playing in the UK because the style of football suits," said Lariki.

Hoffenheim snub Rovers bid

Hoffenheim have confirmed striker Vedad Ibisevic's move to Blackburn Rovers has fallen through after they failed to meet their demands.

The 26-year-old had been poised to join the Premier League club after they identified him as someone that could solve their goalscoring problems.

Problems arose with the deal as it emerged Ibisevic would need a visa to play in England as he holds a Bosnian passport, who are not in the EU.

However, the deal has now been called off as Rovers had reservations over Ibisevic's fitness after he returned from a recent thigh injury.

Chance

Hoffenheim general manager Ernst Tanner told Bild: "We were talking to Blackburn Rovers and there was a chance Vedad Ibisevic could have moved to them.

"However Blackburn did not want to meet our demands in the end. The transfer is off.

"We understand Blackburn felt there was a certain risk involved as Vedad Ibisevic is actually out injured. That played a part."

Ibisevic has a record of 38 goals in 82 matches for Hoffenheim and his contract with the club runs until June 2013.
