Roma's new owner has admitted that Daniele De Rossi could join Manchester City this week.

City boss Roberto Mancini was last week quoted as saying that he believed 28-year-old De Rossi, who has also been linked with rivals Manchester United, would be "absolutely perfect" in his midfield.

That has led to reports suggesting the Italian is looking to make a £25million bid for the midfielder before the transfer window closes on Wednesday night.

And while Roma owner Thomas DiBenedetto is hopeful of keeping the Italy international at the club, he has admitted that it will be the player himself who makes the final decision.

"Daniele is a Roman and a Romanista 100 per cent, a great player, an international and a great figurehead for us,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

"Therefore, we hope he can play for Roma to the end of his career, but ultimately it’s his decision.

"If he had different ambitions, then we’d have to take that into account.".

The Italy international is out of contract with Roma next summer.
