Crouch could be let go
Redknapp opens door to striker's departure

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he could let Peter Crouch leave before the transfer deadline if it is something that the striker wants, while Alan Hutton to Aston Villa is 'a possibility'.

Redknapp has worked with Crouch at three different clubs and is a great admirer of the England international.

However, the arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City has left Redknapp with plenty of options up front and it could be that somebody has to leave.

Crouch is the player attracting a lot of interest and Redknapp is happy for him to make a decision on his own future.

"There are few clubs that want him, but we'll have to wait and see with that one," the Spurs manager told Sky Sports News.

"It's up to Crouchy. I have had Peter at a few clubs and he's a good player, great guy, but I suppose with Adebayor coming in it is an area that we are a little bit overloaded in and he is one that people want.

"If we're going to do something with somebody then it is a possibility."

Good player

Aston Villa have been linked with a swoop for right-back Alan Hutton, who has slipped down the pecking order at White Hart Lane behind Vedran Corluka and Kyle Walker.

Redknapp is not clear what the exact situation is but accepts that Hutton could be on the move before 11pm on Wednesday.

"Alan is a good player, he is away playing for Scotland and Alex McLeish knows him, so it might well be a possibility I suppose," said Redknapp.

Redknapp is anticipating a busy deadline day at White Hart Lane as Spurs conclude their transfer business for the summer.

Asked if there would be any movement on Wednesday, he replied: "I think there will be some things happening here tomorrow."

Gago snubs English interest
Argentine midfielder set to join Roma on loan



Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago is set to join Roma on loan with a view to a permanent deal after snubbing interest from England, according to one of the Spanish club's agents.

The Argentine was linked with big-spending Premier League pair Manchester City and Liverpool earlier this summer, but he is said to prefer a move to Italy.

Agent Ernesto Bronzetti, who works as an intermediary for Real, says the Spanish club have agreed to the loan, which could lead to a ?6million (£5.3m) permanent deal, and now Roma just have to complete negotiations.

"There was the opportunity for him to go to England," Bronzetti told Tele Radio Stereo.

"But when the player heard of Roma, he blocked any other case to give his all to Roma."

Bronzetti at the same time claims Roma have made an enquiry about former Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth man Lassana Diarra, who was reportedly a target of Tottenham.

"Roma have also made an attempt for Diarra, but Real Madrid do not want him to leave him unless there is a definite offer to buy him," said Bronzetti.

Skysports.com understands Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur are locked in talks regarding a deal for Gary Cahill after Arsenal ended their interest in the defender. Spurs are understood to have offered Sebastien Bassong as part of the deal, but Bolton have other options to consider.

Valencia have secured the signing of Victor Ruiz from Napoli, just months after the defender joined the Italian club.

Ruiz linked up with Napoli on a long-term contract from Espanyol in the January transfer window, but has now returned to Spain.

He has signed a five-year deal with Valencia and will undergo a medical on Tuesday before being presented as the club's new signing.

Valencia technical secretary Braulio Vazquez believes the acquisition of Ruiz, who helped Spain win the European Under 21 Championship earlier this summer, will prove to be "an important step forward" for Los Che.

He told the club's official website: "[Ruiz is] of the highest level in Europe. He has great technique, positional sense and strength.

"He will help to complement our existing defence and offer something different to our squad.

"He is a player with a big future ahead of him, and will definitely shine in the present.

"We are proud to have him here, and to have reached an agreement for his signature after a difficult negotiation process, because Napoli valued him very highly.

"I think that with Victor on board, we have taken an important step forward."
