Roman Pavlyuchenko has stunned Tottenham by asking to secure a deadline-day departure from White Hart Lane.
The Russia striker had been keen this summer to open talks on a new contract, but now says there is little point penning a new deal following Emmanuel Adebayor's arrival at the club.
'My agent is in London,' Pavlyuchenko said on Tuesday night. 'He met the chairman Daniel Levy to try to find a way out, but so far there is no solution.
'We gave the option of going out on loan for six months but Levy opposed it. The team have five forwards, and someone will not even get into the squad, so should leave.
'We can find options. I know that Sunderland have been actively interested in me.
'In England, miracles can happen on the last day of the transfer window. So there is hope, but it is very small.'
The 29-year-old started both of Spurs Europa League games against Hearts but was restricted to the bench for the defeats by Manchester United and Manchester City and faces competition from Adebayor, Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Rafael van der Vaart.
Pavlyuchenko has been priced out of a return to Russia despite widespread interest and said a permanent move would only be considered in the January window.
He is keen to stay in England as his family are settled and remaining here until 2013 would make him eligible for citizenship.
'I still want to stay and extend my contract, especially since everything suits me at Tottenham,' he said.
'Everything except playing time. But when I am not allowed on the pitch, renewing the contract doesn't make sense.' Pavlyuchenko is in Moscow on international duty.
