Arsenal face forking out at least £12m for Samba due to Hertha sell-on clause

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 10:50 PM on 19th June 2011

Arsenal face having to pay over the odds for Christopher Samba after it emerged that former club Hertha Berlin get 15 per cent of any fee for him.

Blackburn are reluctant to sell the centre back but seem certain to insist on at least £12million after agreeing to the clause when they signed him from Hertha for £450,000 in 2007.

Spurs have also expressed an interest in 27-year-old Samba.

Arsenal remain hopeful of finalising a £12m deal for Lille striker Gervinho this week and are chasing Southampton's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17.

Arsenal are awaiting a formal bid from Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas but the European champions have failed to sign any major targets yet.

Kagawa in Dortmund talks
Sought-after youngster looking to extend stay at German club

By Thomas Zocher.   Last Updated: June 20, 2011 9:37am

Highly-rated forward Shinji Kagawa has opened talks over a new deal with Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, according to his agent.

The 22-year-old Japan international is already contracted at Signal Iduna Park until 2013, but the German club are keen to tie him down on a longer deal after his impressive performances last season.

Kagawa, who joined Dortmund from native club Cerezo Osaka last summer for £250,000, scored eight goals in 17 games last term before a foot injury sustained at the Asian Cup in January saw him sidelined for almost the entire second half of the campaign.

Despite that setback, the youngster's displays for Dortmund in the opening half of the season reportedly turned heads across Europe, with Manchester United among those thought to be interested.

But Kagawa's agent, Thomas Kroth, says the player is likely to commit to Dortmund after opening negotiations with the club to extend his deal.

Talks

"Shinji Kagawa is able to imagine staying on at Borussia Dortmund," Kroth told BILD.

"We have even had a first round of talks with Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc with regard to a new contract."

He added: "Shinji is actually contracted to Borussia Dortmund and he likes the club.

"He is absolutely looking forward to playing in front of the exciting Signal Iduna Park crowd in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League in the new season."

Lille could scupper Toon Erding deal
June 20, 2011
By ESPNsoccernet staff

Newcastle United may face competition in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erding after Lille chief Frederic Paquet hinted he is considering making a bid for the Turkey international.

The Magpies, who snapped up Rennes star Sylvain Marveaux on a free transfer over the weekend, have been closing in on Erding but now the France-born forward could have the option to remain in Ligue 1.

"Mevlut Erding is a player that we are following," Lilli general manager Frederic Paquet told Mercato365. "There is no contact, but we know about him. He's a great player."

Toon boss Alan Pardew is eager to make Erding, 24, his fourth signing of the summer, having already secured Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba, but said last week that there was still a way to go to complete the deal.

"Erding has always been on our radar - he's a very good player but that is all I will say at the moment," Pardew said. "We are working extremely hard to make deals happen and I'm pretty happy with how things have gone [in the transfer window] so far."

Newcastle's latest signing, Marveaux, will complete his move to St James' Park upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June and has agreed a five-year deal at St James' Park.

The left-sided midfielder had been widely expected to sign for Liverpool but it was reported on Friday that there had been problems with his medical.

Marveaux has been sidelined since November after sustaining a groin injury, but Newcastle are satisfied that it will not prove a long-term problem and Pardew is delighted to have won the race to sign the player.

Pardew said: "It's a great coup to have signed Sylvain, who has received interest from a number of other clubs. He may not be well known to many of our fans, but he is a real talent and a player we have been keeping an eye on for some time. It's been a good couple of days for us on the transfer front."

Tottenham's Harry Redknapp rules out Arsenal move for Jermain Defoe
Manager of White Hart Lane club denies any approach has been made for his forward by rivals Arsenal, despite being out of favour at White Hart Lane last season
Jermaine Defoe will not be leaving Tottenham for rivals Arsenal this summer, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

Defoe was reportedly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane after falling out of favour with Redknapp last season.

"I didn't see that, I couldn't see that one happening," Redknapp told reporters.

The England striker struggled with injury for much of last season having torn ligaments in his ankle during a friendly with Switzerland last September, and has struggled to get back to full fitness ever since.

The 28-year-old still scored 12 goals in total last season, however, as Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League but failed to retain Champions League football.

果然係契仔

MORATTI EXPECTS SNEIJDER STAY

President Massimo Moratti believes Inter Milan's top stars will remain at the San Siro, including reported Chelsea and Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder.

Sneijder, Maicon and Samuel Eto'o proved pivotal in helping the Nerazzurri finish runners-up in Serie A and lift the Coppa Italia trophy in the recently-completed season.

They have all attracted the attention of top European clubs but the trio are still under contract with Inter.

"What I can say is that I have spoken to Maicon, Sneijder and Eto'o and they have all told me they want to continue with us," Moratti said to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Cameroon striker Eto'o has not closed the door on a move to the Premier League in the near future, while Brazilian full-back Maicon remains Real Madrid's top summer target.

Speculation:

According to reports in Spain, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are both keen on Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung. Atletico have money to spend due to the expected sale of David De Gea to United, while Sevilla are only prepared to offer £7million. Reports claim both clubs have sounded out Park's agent, but have not made a formal offer for the South Korean.

Udinese - No Sanchez deal
Barca yet to agree terms for Chile international ace

By Simone Bargellini.   Last Updated: June 20, 2011 12:09pm

Udinese have stated no deal has been brokered with Barcelona for Alexis Sanchez amid weekend reports the starlet would be flying in to finalise the transfer.

The 22-year-old forward is currently training with the Chilean national squad ahead of next month's Copa America, but was thought to be ready to leave the camp to rubber-stamp the transfer.

The Catalan giants have reportedly offered ?28million (£24.6m) up front along with a ?11m (£9.6m) bonus and promising youngster Jonathan Soriano in exchange.

However, Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo insists Sanchez remains the club's player as Barcelona's offer remains well short of the club's asking price.

"Sanchez is still an Udinese player," he told Sky Sport 24 Italia. "I'm sorry about this 'saga'. We wanted to keep him for another year to help us with the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

"But unfortunately we're not a big club in Europe, so when top clubs put their eyes on our player you cannot do anything. But the right offer has not yet arrived.

"Barcelona's offer is not yet the right price, and everyone knows it: both Barcelona and other big clubs. Between us and Barcelona we are still far away."

Liable

Meanwhile, Chile boss Claudio Borghi will allow Sanchez to travel to finalise his possible Barcelona switch as they do not want to be liable in the event of injury.

If he signs for Barca without travelling and is then injured in the tournament then Chile could be liable for a whopping £27.8million bill.

Chile are eager to avoid a potentially messy financial scenario by allowing the coveted talent to link up with Barca once the terms of the deal are agreed.

"It's a very complicated matter," Borghi told Chilevision. "If we don't allow him to travel, and the sale goes through, we would be accountable for $45million in the event of anything happening to him.

"It's very simple. As soon as the confirmation of his transfer comes through, he will have the authorisation (to travel).

"If (the transfer) happens in the middle of the Copa America, obviously not, but we have time and we know we cannot be responsible for that amount of money, so the ideal situation would be for him to travel and sign when the deal is confirmed."
