Villas-Boas to start Chelsea reign with £80million deals for Falcao, Moutinho and... Neymar!

Published 23:01 21/06/11 By Martin Lipton

Andre Villas-Boas has lined up an £80million triple swoop when he becomes Roman Abramovich's seventh Chelsea manager in seven years.

Villas-Boas will be confirmed as Carlo Ancelotti's Stamford Bridge successor in the next 24 hours after Chelsea bankrolled the 33-year-old's £13.2m extrication from his contract with the Portuguese champions.

The Portuguese, who was the chief opposition scout during Jose Mourinho's SW6 reign, flew into London last night after breaking his ties with Porto and hopes to persuade Abramovich to land Colombian striker Radamel Falcao and Portuguese playmaker Joao Moutinho and give him two players who will be dressing room disciples.

Chelsea are also closing in on Brazilian teenager Neymar with a £40m bid being prepared after he plays for Santos in the second leg of their Copa Libertadores final against Penarol tonight.

Israeli agent Pini Zahavi has flown to Sao Paulo to help Chelsea complete their swoop for the South American after his club Santos turned down the initial £30m aproach, with a deal expected to go through before the weekend.

Villas-Boas is also keen on bringing at least two members of his coaching staff with him, physical trainer Jose Mario Rocha and opposition scout Daniel Sousa, although Porto have named his assistant Vitor Pereira as their new boss.

Pereira said: "Andre asked me if I wanted to come with him to Chelsea but I told him my dream was to stay as coach of Porto. This is the club where I want to succeed.

"Andre made his history, of which I am proud. I thank Andre for his friendship and trust but the past is the past. Andre knows that Porto will continue to win."

Porto President Pinta Da Costa refused to discuss Villas-Boas' exit last night as Chelsea prepared for an imminent announcement after Porto last night confirmed to the Portuguese Stock Exchange that the buy-out clause money has been deposited.

Villas-Boas has agreed to take up the toughest job in club football, on a three-year deal worth £6.2m per season and just as Mourinho brought in Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho from Porto to spread the gospel according to the Special One, so then new man will follow that blueprint with his own two chosen signings.

Falcao, the star of the Portuguese season seems set on following Villas-Boas to Chelsea after ditching his former agent, Claudio Mossio, and employing Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Villas-Boas, Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo among others.

The former River Plate striker, 25, who moved to Portugal from the Argentinian side in 2009, has scored a staggering 73 goals in 85 appearances for Porto, including a record-breaking 17 in the Europa League campaign he sealed with the only goal against Braga in Dublin last month.

Porto has set a minimum release clause price of £26.5m for his services while they are likely to want at least £14m for Mourinho, despite spending just £9m to land him from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

Liverpool set to sacrifice Meireles to finance summer spending spree

Liverpool are still in the hunt for Stewart Downing, but expect protracted negotiations with his club Aston Villa, who are keen to be seen to be trying hard to keep their best players.

The Midlands club know there is already a massive backlash brewing against new boss Alex Mcleish, and should both Downing and Ashley Young immediately leave, that would only heap further pressure on the Scotsman.

Liverpool though expect to eventually snap up Downing for around £12million, even if they have to wait all summer for their man, though they have lined Charles N'Zogbia up as a potential replacement.

They will finance what is sure to be an expensive summer - with the capture of Charlie Adam and Scott Dann also still high on their agenda - by selling some of their squad players who are surplus to requirements.

And perhaps surprisingly, that clear out could begin with Raul Meireles, who was the only one of last summer's signings to make a real impact at Anfield.

The Portugal international midfielder was voted fans' player of the year after a promising debut in the Premier League, but he failed to hold down a place in central midfield for the Reds.

Instead he was often used wide of midfield, and with Downing and perhaps another winger on their way to Liverpool, his options would be further limited, as would his chances in the centre with the capture of Jordan Henderson and Adam.

Talks have proceeded on an informal basis with Inter Milan, and now the indications are that the Italians will get their man if they offer Liverpool a profit on their initial £12million outlay...and that deal could be processed quickly.

The Reds are also in talks with Roma over the sale of Alberto Aquilani, and new Fulham boss Martin Jol is interested in Joe Cole, while Dalglish is also looking to offload Milan Jovanovic, Maxi Rodriguez, Christian Poulsen, Paul Konchesky and Philipp Degen amongst others.

Man City in talks to sign £20million French international

Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Manchester-City-in-talks-to-sign-Lyon-20million-Aly-Cissokho-article751602.html#ixzz1Q4AeUgSr

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini wants Lyon’s powerful French international left back Aly Cissokho - but he will have to pay £20 million for him.

Mancini plans to improve one of his weaker positions and supremo Garry Cook has been in France on a mission to close a deal for the strong-running Cissokho.

EXCLUSIVE: Sanchez refuses to board plane to Manchester for City talks

However Lyon have slapped a massive fee on his head, based on the fact that they paid around £15 million to bring him from Portuguese giants Porto just a year ago.

City have put Cissokho on their priority list, but the Eastlands outfit are finding it hard to land their targets as prices spiral despite their attempts to keep their spending under control.

Cissokho is one of the best left backs in Europe, but he came up the hard way and has had many problems in his chequered career.

The youngster went to Portugal in a bid to make his name and was a major hit with Porto - but a move to AC Milan collapsed because of a failed medical. However he has played a full season for Lyon.

Cissokho also had the chance to play for Senegal through his family roots, but has since played for France. However he was overlooked for their ill-fated World Cup squad.

Liverpool will match Sunderland's £8million bid for Connor Wickham.

Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish has been monitoring Ipswich's young striker for the past six months, and he is ready to act in the face of opposition from the north east club.

The Mirror revealed yesterday Sunderland had made a formal bid for the England U-21 international , which has prompted the reaction from their Merseyside rivals.

Liverpool had previously bid £6million for Wickham, and also offered Ipswich the chance to take their young star Jonjo Shelvey on loan for next season.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean is facing a fight with Roma for United States midfielder Jermaine Jones.

Kean wants to bring back Jones from German side Schalke after a successful loan spell, but the Bundesliga outfit want £5.5million.

Rovers were hoping to reduce the asking price but now Jones’s agent is in talks with Roma who may be prepared to pay him better terms – and sort out a fee with Schalke.

Downing closer to Liverpool move
June 23, 2011

Stewart Downing is on the verge of joining Liverpool after being told by Aston Villa that he is free to leave the club, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Downing is understood to be on his way to Anfield if the Reds are able to meet the £19 million asking price for the winger. It is believed that new boss Alex McLeish is reluctant to lose the England international, but with recent contract talks at Villa Park stalling, the club may be prepared to take accept a transfer fee and move instead for Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan.

McLeish earlier told the Birmingham Mail that while he was resigned to losing Ashley Young to Manchester United, he was still interested in keeping Downing.

"He is a top player," said McLeish. "He has got a couple of years left on his contract and it is very important that we hold on to Stewart. I want Stewart to stay. I saw his statement. I'll have a go at talking to Stewart and see what happens.

"The guys are on holiday at the moment. When they are back in England I will try and get a meeting with them. I don't know but it seems that Ashley is going to leave. I don't know if the Young one is a fait accompli but I'll certainly be looking to try and keep Stewart."

Liverpool have also been scouting cheaper alternatives to Downing, including Dimitri Payet from St Etienne, but the Englishman is still the club's preferred target.

Meanwhile, the movement at Villa is set to continue, with Rangers confirming they have made an offer to Carlos Cuellar, while McLeish is expected to announce the signing of Germinal Beerschot's Victor Wanyama, despite the midfielder being heavily linked to Swansea and Celtic.

Udinese - No City rejection
But Italian side insist Barca remain favourites for Sanchez

Udinese have rejected claims that Alexis Sanchez refused to meet with Manchester City.

Reports have suggested that the Chile star has his heart set on a move to Barcelona and, as a consequence, he is refusing to even meet City.

The English club are understood to have lodged a larger offer than Barca with Udinese, who are trying to offer players in exchange.

Gino Pozzo, the son of Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo, has confirmed that Barca remain favourites for his signature, but he insisted Sanchez has not stated that Barca is his preference.

"I can say that Barcelona have the advantage over Manchester City right now," Pozzo said.

"The player has not manifested any particular preference, although naturally we will listen to his opinion.

"We haven't concluded any deal yet because there are still some details to work through."

Reports claim that Barca's attempts to include Jeffren in a deal are not going down well with the player, while the chances of Udinese accepting Jonathan Soriano appear to have diminished also.
