NEW BLOW FOR JONATHAN WOODGATE
Jonathan Woodgate will miss Tottenham Hotspur's UEFA Champions League first-leg tie against Real Madrid after picking up a calf injury.
The defender has endured a torrid time with injury in recent seasons, but made his first-team comeback as a substitute in last month's 1-0 win away to AC Milan.
He then suffered a groin problem and was building up his fitness in a friendly game against Barnet on Tuesday.
However, the 31-year-old limped off with a calf injury and he will now miss next week's quarter-final European trip to his former club Real.
Woodgate is battling to earn a new contract at Spurs and manager Harry Redknapp admits it is a blow to lose the centre-half.
"It's not good news - a real blow to him and the club," Redknapp told The Sun.
"He had been training well recently and I was hoping to feature him against Real next week.
"He'll still travel with us as part of the squad. Real is his old club and this match means so much to him."
