Everton are close to agreeing a deal worth £30 million for Sunderland's England under-21 international Jordan Pickford.

Negotiations have progressed between the two clubs over the past 24 hours and Everton are growing increasingly confident of signing the highly-regarded goalkeeper this month.

Sunderland rejected an initial bid from the Merseysiders last month but sources in the north-east have admitted that talks are now reaching a conclusion, with Pickford expected to undergo a medical when he returns from international duty.

The 23-year-old is in Poland for the European Championships and will be presented with the chance to enhance his reputation after an impressive season at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland finished bottom of the Premier League but Pickford remained consistent, with former manager David Moyes claiming he would be England's future No 1 for the senior team.

The Black Cats have slapped a strict valuation on him and it is understood that the deal could eventually reach £30 million after various add-ons and clauses.

Last week Pickford said: “I have spoken to my agent and told him that I just want to concentrate on the Euros and be the best I can be.

“I’ll see where it takes me. Being a Sunderland lad it’s a bit hard to take and it’ll always be hard to take.

“Financially it’s not ideal for the whole club. For me, having grown up there, seeing people you’ve known for a long time losing their jobs is not nice.

“But I feel like as a team and staff behind the scenes we did the best we could do and it was just unfortunate that we never got the results and points that we needed.”

Everton are also pressing forward with their £26 million move for Ajax skipper Davy Klaasen and Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Swansea midfielder, is another leading target but they face competition from Leicester.

Everton have agreed a fee totalling £30m with Sunderland for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.  

The Merseysiders had an opening bid knocked back last week, but have come back in with another which relegated Sunderland have accepted.

We understand the £30m will include a number of add-ons over the course of a long-term contract.

Pickford is currently on international duty in Poland with England U21s and will undergo a medical upon his return.
