Newcastle are expected to complete the signing of defender Florian Lejeune from Eibar in the coming days, Sky sources understand.

Newcastle gave been locked in negotiations with La Liga side Eibar for their French centre-back for a number of weeks.

Talks have progressed slowly over the past month with Eibar wanting the player's £8.7m release clause paid up front rather than in instalments.

However, Sky Sports News HQ understands that the two clubs have settled a number of differences over the weekend and a deal could be agreed in the next 48 hours.

The 26-year-old played a key role for Eibar last season, helping them finish 10th in La Liga.

Paris-born Lejeune is a former France U20 international. In 2015, he signed for Manchester City but was immediately loaned back to the Spanish second tier side, Girona, before moving on to Eibar last year.
