Milan defender Alessandro Nesta admits he will use his long injury history as a yardstick by which to measure his future in football.
His contract at San Siro expires in June and there is little suggestion he will push for a renewal. Nesta says he would prefer to take the back seat, and claims injuries will influence his decision as to whether he will ponder retirement.
"We are almost at the end, and I don't want to drag myself around on the pitch. I will evaluate my physical conditions. Football has given me a lot," he told Sportmediaset.it when asked if he would quit in the summer.
But his battles on the field remain intact as Milan pitch for the title.
"I think the Champions League will take Inter's strength to stay behind us away from them," he added.
"We made a mistake against Bari, but the distance ahead of them [Inter] remained the same. The derby will be fundamental though."
The city rivals clash on Saturday, April 2, but before then Milan travel to Palermo looking to extend their five-point advantage.
