Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Manchester United's Antonio Valencia could return to the first team squad
at the end of February after missing most of the season so far through injury.
The winger fractured and dislocated his ankle earlier in the season in United's opening Champions League game against Rangers in September after a challenge from Kirk Broadfoot.
But now the player
is ready to return to light training, having started on a regime to improve his mobility, and is looking to return in a month’s time.
"Valencia’s doing well now. He’s
started his running programme; he’s out with the physio’s everyday now, which is a big step forward," the United manager said.
"He’s been given the all-clear by the doctors, so he’s under complete control now which is great for us.
"And I think possibly towards the end of February he should be back in the first team squad, which is a big boost to us and something to look forward to."
The news of Valencia’s recovery has reached Old Trafford well, as now Ferguson will have more wide options down his flanks.
At first it was feared that the season was over for the Ecuador international, but further tests showed the ex-Wigan star’s injury was not as bad as it appeared.
