David Moyes' future as Sunderland manager remains uncertain following talks with his bosses, according to Sky sources.

The 54-year-old met with Black Cats owner Ellis Short and chief executive Martin Bain in London over the bank holiday weekend for a scheduled catch-up following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

Moyes, who only joined the Wearsiders on a four-year deal last July, remains undecided whether he will continue as manager in the Sky Bet Championship next season, with a large-scale rebuilding job needed.

Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Bournemouth saw Sunderland return to the Championship for the first time in a decade.

Sunderland still have four games remaining in the current campaign and face Hull and Swansea - who are both fighting relegation - in the next two weeks before final fixtures against Arsenal and Chelsea.

David Moyes has resigned as manager of Sunderland following their relegation from the Premier League.

The former Manchester United and Everton manager oversaw a campaign in which the Black Cats finished bottom of the Premier League, with just six wins from their 38 games.

Moyes advised the Sunderland chairman and chief executive of his decision to leave the club at a meeting in London on Monday morning.

Speaking about the decision, chairman Ellis Short said: "I pursued the services of David Moyes for a considerable period prior to his appointment last summer, which makes the announcement of his departure difficult for everyone concerned.

"Having worked tirelessly throughout the campaign to avoid relegation from the Premier League, David has chosen to leave the club without compensation, which is testament to his character.

"In the days ahead we will take some time for reflection, and then focus on recruitment and pre-season as we prepare for our Championship campaign. We wish David well in the future."

Moyes said: "I would like to thank Ellis Short and the Board for giving me the opportunity to manage Sunderland and the fans for always being so passionately supportive of their club.

"I wish the players and my successor well in their efforts towards promotion back to the Premier League."
