Lakers hire Mike D'Antoni


The Los Angeles Lakers, in a wholly unexpected move, announced Monday morning that they signed former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni to replace Mike Brown as head coach.



D'Antoni's deal is for four years, his agent, Warren LeGarie, confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com late Sunday night



TheLakers said they plan to hold a press conference most likely on Tuesdayor Wednesday. Team spokesperson John Black said Lakers owner JerryBuss, executive vice president Jim Buss and general manager MitchKupchak were "unanimous that D'Antoni was the best coach for the team atthis time."


Sources confirmed a Los Angeles Times reportthat D'Antoni quickly agreed to coach the Lakers after L.A.'s weekend ofnegotiations to bring back Phil Jackson broke down.


It hadbeen widely anticipated that the Lakers would be bringing back Jacksonafter deciding to oust Brown just five games into the regular season,but sources said that the Lakers ultimately couldn't stomach Jackson'scontract demands to return, which were believed to include a salaryranging from $10 to 15 million annually, significant say in personneldecisions as well as his eventual replacement along with the ability forthe 67-year-old to skip selected road games.


Sources indicate that the deal was consummated very quickly late Sunday night toward the end of the Lakers win over Sacramento.



D'Antoni,who had knee surgery at the beginning of November, hasn't yet beencleared to travel, according to sources and "it'll be a couple of daysbefore he comes in, but he's further along than people believe."
Lakers point guard Steve Nash said earlier Sunday he would be elated if he were reunited with his old Suns coach in D'Antoni.


"ObviouslyI think everyone knows how much I love Mike," Nash said. "If (D'Antoni)were to coach, it would be seamless and terrific for me, and I thinkthe team as well."

我到而家都覺得拿殊上錯船..

nash 同kobe 的打波風格根本唔夾, nash 去湖人係錯誤的決定
我原本認為lakers 只有mike brown 先有希望, 不過睇佢hire d'antoni 之後, 我諗lakers 今年都係玩完架喇
