Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa is considering handing in a transfer request, as he becomes increasingly frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities this season, according to Sky sources.

The Argentine's only Premier League start came against Middlesbrough on January 2.

Ulloa, 30, has 18 months left on his current contract but he's yet to be offered a new deal by Leicester.

Sources close to the player indicate he is still very fond of Leicester but he is keen to sort out his future because he is aware his next contract could be his last before he retires.

Unlike some other members of Leicester's title-winning squad, Ulloa wasn't offered improved terms in the summer, though he did receive the same bonuses as his team-mates.

Claudio Ranieri has said publicly he wants to keep the striker.

Leicester turned down a £9m bid for Ulloa in the summer, and sources indicate the club also rejected an approach from an unnamed Spanish club last week.

It is believed a number of Spanish clubs are monitoring Ulloa's situation, and further offers are expected before the January window closes.

Leicester striker Leonardo Ulloa is prepared to hand in a transfer request in the next 24 hours in a bid to resolve his future.

The 30-year-old and his representatives held talks with the Premier League-winning club last night, with an offer from Alaves on the table, Mirror Sport understands.

Ulloa has been unhappy over his lack of playing time with the champions this season. He has not been rewarded with a new deal after helping them win the title last term.

The Foxes are currently considering their next move but Ulloa is unhappy at the King Power Stadium and is ready to leave.

Reports earlier this week that suggested Ulloa, who has 18 months left on his current deal, had already handed in a transfer request were wide of the mark.

Ulloa is unlikely to sign a new contract, if one were offered, and money is not an issue as he wants to play more regularly having been restricted to just seven league starts last season.

He has made just two starts this term and has scored once in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Leicester would like to keep Ulloa, who signed from Brighton for £8million in 2014, and he remains a popular figure at the club, with boss Claudio Ranieri understanding his frustrations.

Islam Slimani, a record £30million buy last summer, Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

With Slimani on duty with Algeria at the African Nations Cup, Leicester are reluctant to let Ulloa go this month but have been looking for a new striker just in case.

Sky sources understand Leicester want to keep Ulloa, and were prepared to discuss a new contract with the Argentinian, who has 18 months left on his current deal.

But the striker has decided his future lies away from King Power Stadium, whatever offer comes back, after making just one Premier League start all season.

It's thought Alaves' offer is the only one that's come forward so far, and it's well below Leicester's valuation of the player. Leicester turned down a £9m bid from Swansea for him in the summer.

Claudio Ranieri thinks Leonardo Ulloa will stay at Leicester

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri says he is hopeful Leonardo Ulloa will remain at the club, despite having reportedly handed in a transfer request.

The 30-year-old has been reportedly linked with Spanish side Alaves and Sky sources reported on Thursday that he had decided his future lies away from the King Power.

However, Ranieri feels he needs the extra option in attack that Ulloa provides and thinks the striker will remain with the Premier League champions for the time being.

"Always I said I don't want to keep players who are not happy but, at the top, there is the club," said Ranieri.

"Three of us have to be happy - club, me and the player. I like Leo because he is a fantastic professional, a good player.

"I told him my impression. Now they are speaking and I think at the end he will stay with us. I want him.

"He's a striker, I only have so many strikers. There is only [Islam] Slimani to hold the ball up and I need two strikers who are very similar.

"I can understand, of course [Ulloa's frustration], because until two years ago he was used to playing every match.

"Two years ago he was the goalscorer of the team. Last season I started with Shinji [Okazaki] and [Jamie] Vardy, because he was a little late on the fitness, and they made something special."

Ulloa has started just twice this season and is out of Sunday's trip to Southampton with the thigh injury which has kept
him sidelined for the last two weeks.

One player Leicester are willing to part with is defender Luis Hernandez, who only joined in the summer but has made just four league appearances and is set to join Malaga for £1.75m.

"We have given permission to go to speak and we are waiting on what happens," said Ranieri. "If he wants to go, yes, he can go."

Addressing concerns that Leicester might be left short of defenders, Ranieri added: "We have options in defence.

"[Daniel] Amartey can play right-back and cente-back, and [Wilfred] Ndidi can play centre-back. If Leicester don't get more players, I am happy."

Sky sources understand Leicester City have rejected a bid of £1.7m from La Liga side Alaves for striker Leonardo Ulloa.

The premier League champions feel the bid is way below what the 30-year old is worth.

Ulloa handed in a transfer request last week, to try to force a move away from the King Power Stadium - he's made just one Premier League start this season, after making 29 appearances in Leicester's title-winning campaign. But the Argentinian has 18 months left on his contract, and Leicester turned down a bid of £9m for him from Swansea in the summer.

Claudio Ranieri has said repeatedly he wants Ulloa to stay at the club. Though he is currently unavailable because of a thigh injury.

Relations between the club and player are becoming increasingly hostile, with Ulloa's representatives branding Ranieri "a liar", accusing him of going back on promises of a new contract he made in the summer.

RANIERI MET WITH ULLOA

Sky sources have told us that Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has met striker Leonardo Ulloa this morning, to demand an explanation about abusive comments made by the player's agent.

Ulloa's representatives branded Ranieri a "liar" who'd broken a number of promises he'd made to the Argentinian last summer. The striker handed in a transfer request last week.

We understand Ulloa has distanced himself from the comments, pointing out that they weren't made under his instruction, and the manager has accepted his explanation and moved on.

Ulloa still wants to leave, to get more regular football, but Leicester are adamant they will keep the player, who has 18 months left on his current contract, unless a credible bid comes in for him. They've already turned down a bid of £1.7m from Alaves for him, which they felt was derisory. They rejected a £9m bid for him from Swansea in the summer.

LEICESTER REJECT ULLOA BID

Sky Sources understand Leicester City turned down a bid of £3m from Sunderland for striker Leonardo Ulloa a few days ago, amid interest from Galatasaray.

One source has told us that Sunderland are considering an increased bid of around £5m, while Galataseray would like to take Ulloa on loan, with a complicated set of further payments to make the deal permanent. Neither offer is currently of interest to Leicester.

Spanish side Alaves saw their bid of £1.7m rejected a week ago.
