Andros Townsend open to rejoining Newcastle on loan as Crystal Palace winger considers future

• But the England international is not a regular under new manager Sam Allardyce

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are continuing negotiations over a proposed deal for Andros Townsend to return to the North East.
Sportsmail revealed talks had begun last week with Townsend open to the move but seeking an initial loan.
The 25-year-old wants to take stock of his situation in the summer once the futures of both clubs are clearer.

Newcastle are pushing for promotion to the Premier League while Palace are hoping to stay up and Townsend would obviously prefer to play in the top flight.
Palace would prefer to recoup the majority of the £13million they paid Newcastle last summer now to re-channel into Sam Allardyce's transfer funds for the final week of this window.
Palace are due to pay the next £3m instalment from that fee this month but may negotiate that as part of a loan fee.


Meanwhile Steven Taylor, the former Newcastle defender, will start training with Ipswich Town next week.
Taylor, 30, is a free agent after leaving Portland Timbers in the MLS by mutual consent after failing to settle at the club.
Ipswich are also close to agreeing a loan move for Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga until the end of the season. The 29-year-old had been talking to Rotherham United.

Newcastle are interested in signing Swansea winger Mo Barrow, according to Sky sources.

It is understood that a loan move for the 24-year-old is most likely at this stage.

Barrow last played for Swansea on New Year's Eve in a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth and has made 19 appearances for the club this season.

However, he has been pushed further down the pecking order at the Liberty Stadium following the arrival of Luciano Narsingh from PSV Eindhoven.

Barrow moved to Swansea in 2014 and has spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers.

Despite the interest in Barrow, Newcastle remain keen on re-signing Andros Townsend. If a deal was done with 25-year-old Townsend, it would most likely be a loan with a view to a permanent move.

Newcastle are top of the Sky Bet Championship and travel to Oxford United in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

Rafa Benitez will demand Newcastle’s hierarchy pay the £15million Crystal Palace are asking for Andros Townsend as he makes one final attempt to land the winger.
The Magpies have spent the past month in pursuit of the 25-year-old - who they sold to Palace for £13m in the summer.
The Premier League club want a £2m loan fee plus £13m for a permanent deal should Newcastle win promotion from the Championship.

Benitez is desperate to sign Townsend and is frustrated that he will enter deadline day with the transfer still up in the air.
The England international wants to rejoin the club where he scored four times from 13 appearances during the second half of last season following his £12m arrival from Spurs in January.

Townsend was unable to prevent the team’s relegation but became a favourite of both supporters and the manager.
If the deal does not go through and owner Mike Ashley refuses to agree to Palace’s demands then Benitez will not be happy.
Particularly as sales last summer left the club in profit to the tune of £30m, money the Spaniard thought he would be able to reinvest in his playing squad.
