Dan Gosling has been in Dublin with Newcastle United this week to fuel speculation that his controversial move from Premiership rivals Everton is close to being completed, writes Gordon Hines.
The 20-year old England under-21 international has also talked with Bolton, West Ham, Sunderland and another Premier League side since exploiting a loophole to leave Goodison Park for nothing after they failed to put a contract offer to him in writing.
And now, by linking with the Magpies at their pre-season training camp in the Irish Republic, the former Brixham United youth team player looks to have shown his hand as to his next move.
The deal is dependent on whether the Toffees appeal a Premier League ruling to let him leave Merseyside for free.
It's understood that Everton had not made any move up to last night, but still have another seven days to do so having rated Gosling's transfer value at £4million.
It's why Newcastle have been reticent to announce any deal, though manager Chris Hughton is believed to have convinced Gosling to join the St James Park club now they're back after one season out of the top flight.
