Boro set to tie up deal for Kevin Thomson
KEVIN Thomson’s £2m move to Boro is expected to go through within the next couple of days.
Kevin Thomson
The 25-year-old Rangers midfielder delayed his journey to Teesside yesterday in order to sort out a couple of personal issues in Glasgow.
The two clubs have agreed the deal, leaving Thomson, pictured below, to complete his medical and agree personal terms.
Thomson will become Gordon Strachan’s fourth major signing in little more than a week.
Once again Steve Gibson and Keith Lamb have delivered, and Strachan has so far been provided with all of his major summer targets.
The Boro boss is still keen on Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper, while the £450,000 offer for Rochdale centre-back Craig Dawson remains on the table.
Strachan will also look to make a couple of loan signings if possible.
The influx of new faces probably needs to be linked with outgoings, though so far Boro have not agreed deals to move on any of their players.
Speculation continues to link Premier League clubs with interest in Gary O’Neil, though any inquiries so far are believed to be nothing more than tentative.
One report claims that Stoke want to offer winger Liam Lawrence plus cash for O’Neil, though if Strachan was to be tempted to sell, it would be for a large cash-only fee.
Meanwhile Strachan is sending a young side to Guiseley for tonight’s friendly, which kicks off at 7.30pm.
It includes Marvin Emnes, and first team squad defenders Joe Bennett and Jonathan Grounds.
The squad is: Steele, Ripley, Shead, Bennett, Johnson, Gibson, Weldon, Brobbel, Grounds, Smallwood, Dolan, Oliver, Pilatos, Roushias, Gray, Emnes.
