Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper on trial with Liverpool



Former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger is training with Liverpool with a view to signing for the Anfield club.

The Austrian could become Jurgen Klopp's third choice goalkeeper if the German decides to offer Manninger a contract.

Manninger, 39, is a free agent after leaving Bundesliga side Augsburg in the summer.

Wales international Daniel Ward, the club's current No.3, has joined Huddersfield on loan after signing a new deal with the club.

Liverpool are set to announce the signing of veteran goalkeeper Alex Manninger on a one-year contract.

The 39-year-old has been training with the Reds at Melwood following his release from FC Augsburg, and is now set to be Jurgen Klopp’s third-choice ‘keeper for the new season, behind Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

The Austrian flew with the squad on Thursday for their US tour, and his signing should be confirmed in the next 24 hours. He could feature against Chelsea in Pasadena next week.

Manninger is familiar with the Premier League having played for Arsenal between 1997 and 2002. Indeed, he was part of the Gunners’ double-winning side of 1998 under Arsene Wenger.

He had a trial with Everton in 2012 before joining Augsburg, where he made 34 Bundesliga appearances in four years. He has 33 caps for Austria.

Liverpool have already allowed Danny Ward, Adam Bogdan and Ryan Fulton leave on loan this summer, and were keen to add an experienced back-up to Klopp’s squad.

Liverpool’s players trained at their Stanford University base having touched down in California on Thursday afternoon.

The club’s England contingent - Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Daniel Sturridge and Nathaniel Clyne – took part in the session, warming up with the main group before undergoing a separate session for ‘returning players’, which also included new £4.2m signing Ragnar Klavan.

The Reds take on Chelsea in Pasadena next Thursday before games against AC Milan in Santa Clara and Roma in St Louis.

利物浦周五透過官方網站和社交媒體宣佈，曼寧加（Alex Manninger）將免費轉會至利物浦。曼寧加在官網表示：「我等待加盟等了很久，從沒有放棄過這願望…當利物浦致電給我時，我便覺得自己願望成真，這是我等待已久的機會。」他續指：「雖然我無法為球隊每場都上陣，但我會把握每次上陣的機會，我會付出一切。」

利物浦領隊高普表示，曼寧加的加盟能幫助隊中年青門將成長：「他曾踢過4大聯賽，這是非常難得的。」高普又稱：「他能帶給球隊經驗，更能為年青球員樹立榜樣，甚或能補足球隊後備兵源。」

曼寧加上季效力德甲奧格斯堡。這位奧地利門將曾代表國家隊上陣34場，亦曾為阿仙奴、祖雲達斯等隊伍效力。
