Rob Holding: Arsenal bid for Bolton Wanderers defender



Arsenal have made a bid of about £2m for Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding, reports BBC Radio Manchester.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Bolton youth system and was in the England Under-21 squad that won the Toulon tournament this summer.

Holding won the Bolton player of the year award last season after making his debut at the start of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Wanderers are considering making an offer for former Brighton defender Gordon Greer.

Rob Holding close to transfer to Arsenal from Bolton

Rob Holding's transfer from Bolton Wanderers to Arsenal will be completed in the next few days, Sky sources understand.

The 20-year-old defender was left out of the Bolton line-up for their friendly match against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

Bournemouth had been reported to have been interested in Holding but it now looks likely that the player will move to Arsenal.

Holding has been with Bolton since the age of seven and made his senior debut in a Capital One Cup tie against Burton Albion last August.

Capable of playing at either centre-back or full-back, Holding made 30 appearances last season and was named the club's player of the year in a campaign which ended in relegation to Sky Bet League One.

He was called up to Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 squad at the end of the season and was part of the successful side at the Toulon Tournament in France.

Arsenal have signed two players during the current transfer window, midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach and striker Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a promising first senior campaign in 2015/16, making 30 appearances for Bolton and winning the club's player of the season award.
This summer, Rob helped England Under-21s to victory in the Toulon tournament in France alongside Calum Chambers.
