As I understand it, there has been no change in the position re Riyad Mahrez and Manchester City.

Leicester still have no intention to sell and it would take an enormous offer to even consider it.

Mahrez did not travel with the Leicester squad to Merseyside but a decision is yet to be made by manager Claude Puel about whether to select the Algerian for tonight's game at Everton.

Manchester City have submitted a third bid for Riyad Mahrez. The offer is believed to be in excess of £60million – although it still falls someway short of the £90million British record valuation that Leicester City were quoting on Tuesday.

Mahrez is desperate to make the move before the transfer window closes having submitted a transfer request. It is possible that City will return with yet another offer, if this one is rejected, and the make-up of the latest bid is unclear amid claims they may also be willing to offer Leicester a player.

City have so far failed with offers of around £50million and £55million for the Algerian international who is not in the squad for Leicester’s Premier League fixture away to Everton this evening.

Mahrez not going to Man City

Manchester City have walked away from a proposed deal for Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez after refusing to sanction a transfer package that would have cost £95m.

City do not view themselves as having made an offer after Leicester City came to them with a proposal that would have also included a player.

Conversations took place to ascertain Leicester's value of Mahraz - a number of which took place.

City had previously made it clear that they were not willing to spend, however the package was made up, more than £60m.

The difference in valuation was so big that there was no chance of agreement being reached, leaving City to walk away from the deal.

City were not interested in Mahrez simply because Leroy Sane was ruled out for seven weeks with the injury sustained in Sunday's FA Cup win at Cardiff City.

The club had a long-standing desire to bring in an attacking player next summer. They were obviously interested in Alexis Sanchez before he went to Manchester United but felt that was too expensive and have now reached the same conclusion with Mahrez.

Close friend of Riyad Mahrez says Mahrez can't understand why Leicester won't let him join Man City: "He's given his all for Leicester. Joining City would have been a dream. Playing for Pep is something he's still desperate to do. He's very down."
