Man United on the brink of signing Eric Bailly from Villarreal – report



Manchester United and Villarreal have reportedly reached an agreement over Eric Bailly, with United to pay ?40 million and now they will negotiate with the player.
The reports originally broke on Saturday afternoon on Spanish radio and quickly they were reported again by Spanish news outlet AS.
The report claims that United have agreed to pay the ?40 million release clause but it won’t be paid in full as United will instead pay it in stages.
The next stage for Bailly, who signed for Villarreal last summer from Espanyol as a replacement for Arsenal bound Gabriel, is to meet with United and negotiate his contract.
This season in the league Bailly made 25 appearances, making 120 clearances and winning 35 aerial duels.
United were forced to field midfielder Daley Blind at centre-back for most of the campaign, as Phil Jones continues to struggle with injuries.

Blind’s regular partner was Chris Smalling, who is now with England’s squad ahead of the upcoming European Championships in France.
Bailly could end up becoming the first signing made by United since they announced the appointment of Jose Mourinho.
The club have been linked heavily with Zlatan Ibrahimovic but as of yet there has been no confirmation about that deal.

Eric Bailly set to join Manchester United for 40 million euro

Villarreal and the Red Devils have reached an agreement for the young Ivory Coast defender.



Villarreal’s Eric Bailly, is set to join Premier League side Manchester United with the deal expected to be closed later tonight. The Carrusel Deportivo sports programme (part of the Cadena Ser network) have confirmed that both sides are about to conclude the negotiation process with a fee of 40 million euro being agreed in securing the defender’s signature. United will not pay his buy-out clause which was fixed at 40 million but will pay the LaLiga club a quaintly that when varying add on fees etc. are added up will be close to the 40 million euro mark.

Manchester United were not alone in their pursuit of the Ivory Coast international with Manchester City and reigning champions Leicester City also showing interest in the coveted defender. In Spain Robert Fernandez, Barcelona sporting director was known to be following the development of the player as he watched Denis Suárez at Villarreal.

Moved from Espanyol
Bailly arrived at Villarreal over 18 months ago following a move from Espanyol. The “yellow submarine” paid 5.2 million euro for his services with Espanyol retaining a stake in the player. Bailly has convinced at Villarreal with his strong dynamic physical style of play but has been prone to lapses of concentration and has been plagued with a series of shoulder injuries.

Born in Bingerville, Bailly joined RCD Espanyol's youth system in December 2011, aged 17.[1] He only received a work permit in October of the following year,and made his senior debuts in the 2013–14 campaign with the reserves, in Segunda División B.
On 5 October 2014 Bailly made his first-team – and La Liga – debut, coming on as a late substitute in a 2–0 home win against Real Sociedad.He was definitely promoted to the main squad shortly after.
On 29 January 2015 Bailly signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with fellow league team Villarreal CF for a ?5.7 million fee, mainly as a replacement to Arsenal F.C.-bound Gabriel Paulista. He made his debut for the Yellow Submarine on 22 February, starting in a 1–0 home win against SD Eibar
On 19 March Bailly made his UEFA Europa League debut, starting and being sent off in a 1–2 away loss against Sevilla FC

Manchester United are in talks with Villarreal to sign Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly, according to Sky sources.

Sky SportsNews HQ understands United are not the only club trying to sign Bailly, with Manchester City, Barcelona, and Paris St Germain all also in talks with the La Liga club.

Bailly is not believed to have a release clause in his contract, which means all four clubs are essentially in a bidding war for the player. That has driven his transfer fee towards the region of £30m. All four clubs are also competing to offer the best financial package to the player.



The 22-year-old central defender played 25 times for Villarreal in La Liga last season, and made seven Europa League appearances, scoring once. He played in his side's 1-0 semi-final first-leg victory against Liverpool.

Villarreal only signed Bailly in January 2015 from Espanyol to replace Gabriel Paulista, who joined Arsenal earlier that month. He has won 14 caps for Ivory Coast after making his international debut in the same month.
