Rooney ready to adapt for sake of Man United career 
Wayne Rooney admits he would be interested in extending his Manchester United contract and is ready to see out the twilight years of his career in midfield. Rooney still has three years to run on the existing deal he signed in February 2014 and will be almost 34 when that expires. The England captain had been linked with a move away from United prior to signing that deal, but he now looks willing to commit himself to Old Trafford for the remainder of his playing days. He told fanzine United We Stand, in quotes reported by The Sun:
"I have a contract at the club that I want to see out and wouldn't be against extending it - but that's up to the club." Rooney, 30, has spent much of his career playing up front but he has been employed in a deeper role by both United and England in recent years.
It remains to be seen how new United boss Jose Mourinho will utilise England's record goalscorer, but Rooney admits he enjoys a midfield role and is confident he will continue to develop and improve his game, using former team-mate Ryan Giggs as an example.
He added: "All players' games develop and change over time - look at Giggsy towards the end of his career compared to the beginning.
"What I can say is I will continue to develop my game and adapt and improve throughout.
"I think my record shows I have always enjoyed assisting goals as much as scoring them and I also enjoy the involvement from deeper positions."
