Inter Milan make approach to Liverpool for Daniel SturridgeItalians want a loan deal but Reds favour permanent transfer
Inter Milan want to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on loan for the rest of the season. The Serie A outfit have registered their interest in the 28-year-old frontman, who has found his opportunities limited at Anfield so far this term.
The ECHO revealed last week that Liverpool are prepared to off-load Sturridge during the current window but they favour a permanent transfer rather than a loan.
Inter insist they aren’t in a position to match the Reds’ £30million asking price but they would be willing to pay a loan fee and all of his wages.Sturridge, who returned to full training at Melwood last week after a hamstring problem, has only made five starts for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
The England international has told the manager that he wants to leave in order to secure the regular action required to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
Klopp is keen for Sturridge to stay for the rest of the season but will grant him his wish if Liverpool receive a suitable offer.
Southampton and West Ham have also been linked with the former Manchester City forward.
Sturridge hasn’t featured for the Reds since the victory over Spartak Moscow on December 6 with Roberto Firmino firmly established as Klopp’s first choice striker.
Sturridge has scored 63 goals in 133 appearances for the club since his £12m move from Chelsea five years ago. He netted 24 times in the 2013/14 season when he struck up a deadly double act with Luis Suarez but since then he has been hampered by a succession of injuries.
Inter, who sit third in Serie A, already boast 18-goal top scorer Mauro Icardi but boss Luciano Spalletti is keen to further bolster his strikeforce.
