Daniel Sturridge having West Brom medical ahead of loan move from LiverpoolLiverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is having a medical at West Brom on Monday, after Alan Pardew secured a major coup ahead of former club Newcastle.Sturridge has agreed to join Pardew's survival mission on loan until the end of the season with his move to be confirmed in the next 24 hours.
Securing Sturridge would be huge fillip to either of the relegation-threatened side as they seek to escape the scrap at the bottom.Sturridge is on the brink of leaving Anfield having become frustrated with a lack of opportunities.
Liverpool are willing to let him go for the right package.
Newcastle had emerged in the race for Sturridge's signature having been desperate for extra firepower, Benitez frustrated in efforts to recruit several goalscorers, but it will be a tough ask convincing the player to move north east. West Brom have been improving since Alan Pardew’s appointment and Sturridge – who is from The Midlands - could add the finishing touches.
A fully fit Sturridge would make a massive difference at The Hawthorns. He will also see a move as an opportunity to revive his England prospects as he needs to convince Gareth Southgate he should be part of the World Cup squad.
A host of clubs were trying to sign Sturridge over the last few weeks, interest from home and abroad plentiful.
It has seemed he is most likely to head to the continent. Inter Milan made a formal approach which was agreed with Liverpool but not the player.
Sevilla are also keen to make a deal but have not match Liverpool’s term.
The Merseysiders stipulated Sturridge’s salary has to be paid in full. That is around £120,000 a week. With 48 hours remaining, Sturridge has his choice of destination.
From Liverpool’s perspective yet another high profile name has departed following Philippe Coutinho’s switch to Barcelona.
Jurgen Klopp says he was happy with his squad. He still has Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings as striking cover for Roberto Firmino, but recent defeats have raised questions about the strength of his playing pool as they re-focus on trying to progress in the Champions League and qualifying for the competition next season.
