Leicester City transfer news: Vardy decision to come in next few days

Jamie Vardy's destiny will be known within the next few days as he continues to mull over a move from Leicester City to Arsenal.

City are currently trying to persuade Vardy to stay at the King Power Stadium after the Gunners triggered a £20 million release clause in his current City contract and have offered the England striker a lucrative four-year contract worth £120,000 per week.

Vardy signed a new contract in February which raised his City wage to £80,000 per week but City are trying to persuade him to remain at the club by offering him incentives.

Reports this morning have stated Vardy was to announce his decision before the England squad left for the European Championships in France this morning, but the Mercury understands Vardy will take more time before deciding on his future.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has already claimed that he has been told Vardy has decided to join him at the Emirates Stadium, but Mercury sources say no decision has been made yet.

Jamie Vardy has boarded England's flight to France ahead of Euro 2016, with the Leicester striker still deciding on whether to complete a £20million transfer to Arsenal.

Roy Hodgson wanted the 29-year-old to make a decision on his future before linking up with the Three Lions squad in Chantilly on Tuesday.

A deal was expected to be reached for Vardy to join Arsenal over the weekend after the Gunners triggered his £20million release clause.

But Vardy's transfer is not yet over the line despite suggestions England boss Hodgson could have granted him special dispensation by allowing him extra time to make up his mind.

The Three Lions jetted off to their training base in Chantilly on Monday morning with Vardy part of the travelling party.

Vardy has delayed making a decision after Leicester urged him to wait for them to make him a counter-offer to the £120,000-a-week four-year deal Arsenal have put on the table.

That is double what 29-year-old Vardy is currently on at Leicester and the Premier League champions are fighting to match that offer.

Those close to Vardy believe he is leaning towards a move to the Emirates but has not yet made a final decision.



Arsenal were hoping to do a medical and complete negotiations before he went to France as Hodgson did not want transfer talk disrupting his plans.

Leicester are clearly thinking about the future as they have enquired about Watford captain Troy Deeney and will make a £10million bid if Vardy goes.

It would be a hammer blow for Leicester to lose their 24-goal top scorer and they fear selling him would send a bad signal to in-demand duo N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez.

Jamie Vardy: England striker yet to decide on Leicester or Arsenal

Jamie Vardy is keeping Arsenal and Leicester City waiting as he continues to ponder his club future.

The England striker, 29, was due to choose whether to remain with the Foxes or join the Gunners before flying out to France for Euro 2016 on Monday.

But he boarded the flight with the rest of the England squad without informing Arsenal of his decision.

Vardy is still expected to make a decision on Arsenal's reported £120,000-a-week offer on Monday.

Arsenal are believed to have offered in the region of £20m for Vardy to trigger the release clause in his contract.

The former Fleetwood Town forward only signed a new three-year contract, reported to be worth up to £80,000-a-week, with the Premier League champions in February.

Vardy joined Leicester from Fleetwood for £1m in 2012 and helped the Foxes to the Premier League title last season, scoring 24 goals.
