Ryan Giggs was formally interviewed for the vacant Wales job on Friday morning as the Manchester United legend looks to take his first steps in management.

Chris Coleman left the role in November after Wales failed to qualify for this summer's World Cup and FAW officials are keen to make a swift appointment.

Sportsmail understands Craig Bellamy has also been spoken to about becoming Coleman's successor.

Giggs has made no secret of his desire to land a No 1 job and was previously interviewed by Swansea City.

The 44-year-old worked under David Moyes at United before taking charge of four games on an interim basis after the Scot's sacking.

He was assistant to Louis van Gaal for two years before parting ways with United following Jose Mourinho's arrival in 2016.

Giggs is thought to have backing by some former players in his quest for the Wales job and spoke about his interest last month.

'Of course I'm interested,' he said. 'I've played for Wales and I've said that I want to go back into coaching. Obviously that is one of the top jobs.'

44歲的傑斯球員時代總共為威爾斯上陣64場，更曾以隊長身份領軍。高文離任騰出空缺後，傑斯早前接受訪問，表示對此職務十分有興趣。

莫耶斯2014年被曼聯辭退，傑斯當時被球會委任為看守領隊，至雲高爾正式接掌帥印後，他就轉任副領隊。不過，當摩連奴2016年夏天入主，傑斯終於離開了曼聯教練團。今季英超多名領隊相繼被炒，傑斯的名字曾跟其中幾間球會扯上關係，但最終都沒有著落。

RYAN GIGGS APPOINTED WALES MANAGER
Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has been appointed as the new Wales manager.

The former Reds star has agreed a four-year contract to take up his first managerial post since leaving Old Trafford in 2016, following a spell as Louis van Gaal's assistant and also caretaker boss after David Moyes' departure.

"I am so proud to have been given the honour of managing the national team," Giggs told the official Football Association of Wales website.

"The challenges that we have ahead of us with the Nations League and qualification for Euro 2020 excite me a great deal.

"I can't wait to start working with the players as we prepare for those crucial games later in the year."

FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford added: "With his vast amount of experience having played, coached and managed the biggest club in the world, we are confident of a successful future for our national team."

Everybody would like to wish Ryan all the best in his new role.

如果我本身無心出賽既，個領隊以前係點應該唔係我既考慮點

如果係球會唔放人，更加唔係我控制範圍，而球會都唔會用「傑斯以前成日都避戰啦，咁我D球員避戰又有乜出奇?」做理由吧

如果唔係講呢樣野而係講威信問題，咁佢無乜帶隊經驗、偷食前科既影響點都比從前避戰問題大吧

Speaking in his role as a pundit on Match of the Day 2, Shearer was asked for his opinion on the news of Giggs soon-to-be-official appointment.

Responding with a laugh, Shearer said: 'I don't think he played a friendly for around nine years, until 2000.

'So good luck trying to get the players together,' the former England international added.

Shearer's cheeky comment relates to Giggs few and far between appearances for the national side during his playing days.
