verton's board are due to meet on Wednesday with key figures said to be split over whether to offer Sam Allardyce the vacant manager’s job.
Former England manager Allardyce met Everton owner Farhad Moshiri on Sunday but there has been no contact since.
Moshiri’s seeming desire to lure Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone would not have impressed Allardyce, 63, who told one radio station he had not been contacted by the club.

Allardyce, Burnley’s Sean Dyche and Watford’s Marco Silva have all been identified as possible replacements for Ronald Koeman, who was sacked by Everton on October 23.
Caretaker David Unsworth is another contender for the full-time post.
Some among Everton’s hierarchy do see the logic in appointing Allardyce. He not only has a fine record for Premier League survival but he is also available.

Marco Silva: Watford reject Everton approach for manager

Watford have rejected an approach from Everton for their highly-rated Portuguese manager Marco Silva.

Silva, 40, has only been in charge for 11 Premier League games at Vicarage Road after leaving Hull City following their relegation last season.

Everton had made him their prime target to succeed the sacked Ronald Koeman, but the Hornets are determined to reject any attempts to lure Silva away.

It now remains to be seen whether the Toffees intensify their interest.

Everton under-23 coach David Unsworth is currently in caretaker charge after Koeman was sacked less than 24 hours after the 5-2 home defeat by Arsenal on 22 October.

Unsworth has won only one of his four games in charge, ironically a 3-2 victory against Silva's Watford after coming from two goals down.

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has been linked with the Everton job on a short-term basis, while Burnley's Sean Dyche is another name that has been touted as taking over at Goodison Park.

Silva, however, has now moved to the top of Everton's list to take over permanently from Koeman.

Everton are moving closer to appointing Sam Allardyce as their new manager as talks continue to progress positively.

That is despite reports in Portugal suggesting Everton interest in Shakhtar Donetsk coach Paulo Fonseca.

Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth is expected to take charge of Wednesday night's Premier League home meeting with West Ham United.

But the club may even be in a position to confirm Allardyce as Ronald Koeman's successor before that game.

Allardyce, 63, withdrew from contention to take over from Koeman after failing to receive an offer following talks earlier in November.

However, a run of only one win in seven games under Unsworth, including a 5-1 home defeat to Atalanta and a 4-1 loss at Southampton on Sunday, prompted Everton to resume negotiations with Allardyce over the weekend.

Talks are expected to centre on the length of Allardyce's contract and his backroom staff, which looks likely to include former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare, who was sacked by The Foxes earlier this season.

Koeman was sacked by Everton on 23 October after the club slipped to 18th in the Premier League following a 5-2 home defeat by Arsenal.
