LEICESTER BEMUSED BY ROMA

Sky sources understand Leicester City's bosses are becoming increasingly bemused by what they see as attempts from Roma to unsettle Riyad Mahrez, in the hope they may be able to lure him to Serie A.

Leicester do not want to sell Mahrez and have rejected three bids from the Giallorossi - the latest of which was around £32m over a week ago, still way below Leicester's valuation.

Roma have reportedly issued a deadline of midnight tonight for a deal to be done, otherwise they will focus on other transfer targets. We understand Leicester are not aware of any such deadline.

ROMA END MAHREZ CHASE

Roma will try to sign Barcelona’s Munir El Haddadi after giving up on Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, according to sources in Italy.

The Italian capital club have been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Mahrez thus far and have now turned their attentions to other targets.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Roma’s sporting director Monchi wants Munir, although it might be difficult to secure his services before Barcelona bring in a replacement for Neymar.

Roma are willing to spend ?20m to sign the 21-year-old.

Riyad Mahrez could be set for a deadline-day move out of the blue after Algeria announced they have released the winger to complete a transfer to a new club.
The north African side revealed the news via their Twitter account early on Thursday morning, with the deadline rapidly approaching.
Mahrez, valued at £50million by Leicester, is currently training with his international team-mates ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Zambia on Saturday.  

In a statement, the Algerian Football Association said: 'Leicester City FC's Algerian international Riyad Mahrez, who is currently with the national team in Sidi-Moussa preparing for the games against Zambia in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, was authorised by national coach Lucas Alcaraz and the Algerian Football Federation to make an express trip to Europe to formalise his transfer to his new club on Thursday.
'On Thursday morning the squad will fly without him to Lusaka to face Zambia on Saturday at 15:00 local time (14:00 Algerian time).'
The forward - a key part of the Foxes' remarkable title-winning campaign in 2015-16 - had been linked with Roma in the early part of the summer window but that deal appeared to have gone dead.
The Serie A club saw three separate approaches for the player turned down by Leicester.
Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper AS reports that Barcelona have informed Mahrez that he is their back-up option should their move for Philippe Coutinho fail to go through.
