Kevin De Bruyne completes move to Man City from Wolfsburg

Manchester City have completed the signing of Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg.

The 24-year-old arrived in Manchester on Saturday and underwent a medical before putting pen to paper on a six-year deal to join City.

Sky sources understand the deal to bring De Bruyne to City could rise to £58m.

The midfielder, who will wear the No17 shirt, told the club's website: "I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season we can be happy and maybe have some titles.

"I think this is the most important for the club, the players and for the fans of course."

He becomes manager Manuel Pellegrini's eighth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph, Nicolas Otamendi, Patrick Roberts, Enes Unal, David Faupala and Aleix Garcia.

Pellegrini added; "We are very happy to have added Kevin to our team and I have no doubt that he will be a big success on his return to the Premier League.

"It takes a special footballer to improve our squad and I have no doubt that Kevin is certainly one of those – he has all of the mental, physical, tactical and technical attributes required to fit straight in.

"We like to play attractive, attacking football and bringing in a player like De Bruyne will only aid us as we fight on four fronts."

De Bruyne began his career at Genk in his home country before completing a £6.7m move to Chelsea in January 2012.

However, he endured an unsuccessful first spell in England, making just three appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea following a loan spell back at his former club.

De Bruyne spent the 2012-13 season on loan at Werder Bremen and took the Bundesliga by storm last season after making an £18m move from Chelsea to Wolfsburg in January 2014.

He scored 20 goals in 60 appearances during his 18-month spell at the Volkswagen Arena.

Kevin De Bruyne confirms 'informal contact' with Manchester City



Kevin De Bruyne could be set for a return to the Premier League after confirming his agent has had initial talks with Manchester City.

The Belgium midfielder has sparked the interest of a number of top flight clubs after a stellar season with Wolfsburg, where he was named the best player in the Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ  that there had been “informal contact” with City but that the decision would ultimately rest with Wolfsburg since the former Chelsea man is only one season into his five-year contract.

“We say to everybody - if they want to do something they have to go to Wolfsburg, not to me,” he said.

De Bruyne joined Wolfsburg in January 2014 on a five-year contract, leaving Chelsea after being given just two starts under manager Jose Mourinho. Sold for £18m then, the 23-year-old is expected to cost nearly double that now.

“I always thought that I was going to talk to my club first when the season was over. And for me the season is not over. That starts probably next week or the week after but I will also be on vacation,” De Bruyne said.

“I don’t have any stress about these things. It will come this way and I know that there are a lot of rumours and the papers are writing a lot.”

Playing time will be a key factor in any decision to leave, as it was when he made the move from Chelsea last year.

“It’s been for me a wonderful season,” he said. “I think the thing I’m most excited about is that I played almost everything, missed just one game, started everything and played everything.

“My time at Chelsea wasn’t bad. Everybody talks about it and that it was really bad but I just decided I didn’t want to stay at the club under those circumstances, I just wanted to play football and that’s what I did.”

Man City transfers: Begiristain closes in on De Bruyne deal



Manchester City have their eyes firmly fixed on the final prize of the summer transfer window, Wolfsburg star Kevin de Bruyne.

The German club upped the ante by claiming the Belgium ace is not for sale – but added the rider that he would not be kept against his will, if a good offer came in.

City football director Txiki Begiristain has stayed in Manchester after originally being scheduled to join up with City’s tour to Australia and Vietnam.

It was thought he had delayed his flight in order to wrap up the purchase of Patrick Roberts earlier this week, but he has still not joined up with the squad.

And that appears to be because the Blues are now homing in on de Bruyne, in a deal that would take their summer spending towards the £100m mark.

Wolfsburg will want an unrealistic £60m-plus for the Bundesliga player of the year, if de Bruyne says he wants to go.

But City have their sights set on a limit of around £40million, and will tempt the former Chelsea player by trumping the new improved contract Wolfsburg have put on the table.

But the Wolves, who are funded by Volkswagen, do not need to sell, and executive director Javier Garcia Sanz said he was more interested in chasing champions Bayern Munich after finishing as runners-up last season.

“We are not a club that sells, we want to confirm what we accomplished last season,” said Sanz. “We don’t want to sell anyone, including Kevin. Of course, the player must want to stay, but we are not worried at the moment.”

DE BRUYNE KEEN ON CITY?

Kevin De Bruyne’s representatives have held preliminary talks with Wolfsburg over a potential move to Manchester City this summer, reports HLN.

It is thought City have already offered the Belgium international a five-year deal to move to the Etihad despite Wolfsburg’s insistence he won’t be sold.

However, the Bundesliga club are aware of the player’s interest in a move to England as City prepare a £40m bid for the forward.

City are reportedly willing to go up to £60m to land their man.
