Juventus have rejected a bid from Chelsea for left-back Alex Sandro, according to the Serie A club's general director Giuseppe Marotta.

Antonio Conte guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in England, but is yet to strengthen his squad ahead of the next campaign.

Sandro, capped seven times by Brazil, joined Juventus from Porto in August 2015 and has since won successive Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

"Our desire is to not sell any of our most important players," Marotta told Corriere dello Sport.

"We said no to a very good offer from Chelsea for Alex Sandro.

"But we know that we are competing with clubs that are in a position to offer wages that are not rational for us. And players are always their own boss.

"I do not know how Alex Sandro reacted."

Reports in the national press had suggested Conte had become frustrated with the Chelsea hierarchy over a lack of investment in the transfer market, but Sky Sports News HQ understands technical director Michael Emenalo and director Marina Granovskaia are aware of the Italian's targets and are continuing with their recruitment efforts.

Sky Sports News HQ also understands Conte is happy at Chelsea and will return to the club for the start of pre-season in the first week of July.

Chelsea target Alex Sandro will have to ask to leave Juventus before they accept any offer from the Premier League champions.
Chelsea have had an initial £45million offer rejected while Juventus have opened discussions about a new deal for the Brazilian left back.
Juventus director general Beppe Morata said: 'A substantial offer has arrived. We have no intention of selling anyone, but if a player decides to leave, as has happened in previous years, then at the end of the day he has to go, because we don't keep anyone against their will.
'But at the moment there are no such situations and I hope nobody will leave.'
Antonio Conte, despite winning the Premier League at his first attempt, is looking to add defensive options in this summer's transfer window.
The club bought Marcos Alonso, a revelation in the left wing-back position last term, for £23m, but are now understood to want to fork out more for some competition.

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Juventus star Alex Sandro as the player has agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions, sources have told Calciomercato.com.

The Serie A giants rejected Chelsea’s opening ? 60 million bid last week but the Blues are now set to raise their offer to ? 70 million.

Meantime, the Blues have agreed personal terms with the Brazilian star who joined Juventus for ? 26 million in summer 2015. The former Porto man has been offered a ? 7-million-a-year salary and he is believed to have snubbed Juventus’ contract extension offer.

Our Juventus reporter Nicola Balice claims Alex Sandro has already made it clear that he wants to leave Juventus and join Chelsea. Money is no problem, the player just wants to leave Juventus and join the Premier League champions.

The Blues will soon offer ? 70 million and Juventus are already looking at possible replacements.

The Old Lady has set sights on Monaco’s Mendy who, however, has a ? 50 million price-tag.

Man Utd’s Matteo Darmian and AC Milan’s Mattia De Sciglio are more likely to join Juventus than the Frenchman given their versatility and their lower price-tag.

CHELSEA TARGET DOUBLE DEAL

Chelsea are in talks to sign Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, Sky Sports News HQ understands.

Bakayoko played 51 times for Monaco as they won the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 17 years.

Monaco signed him from Rennes for £7m three years ago and now value him at ?40m (£35.1m).

Sandro was a key member of the Juventus team that won the title last season and reached the Champions League final.

Juve signed him for £23m two years ago and now value him at more than £50m, but they are trying to keep him by offering him a new deal.

Chelsea also want to re-sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer.

Chelsea are closing in on Alex Sandro for a club record transfer fee of £61million and are preparing to recoup around £20m by selling Nathan Ake to Bournemouth.
Ake impressed on loan at Bournemouth at the start of last season and was recalled on loan in January as cover for Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill on the left side of Antonio Conte’s defence.
The versatile Dutch international defender performed brilliantly when he deputised for Cahill in the FA Cup semi-final but found his chances were limited at Chelsea during the latter part of the season.
At 22, he is determined to find regular football and talks have opened over a move back to Bournemouth.
Chelsea are reluctant to sell a player they believe will mature into a fine Premier League defender and will demand a buy-back option in the details of any deal.
Southampton had also shown interest in Ake as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
But Van Dijk’s proposed move to Liverpool stalled after allegations of an illegal approach by the Merseysiders and made the Saints move reluctant than ever to sell.
Liverpool and Chelsea are expected to return with further attempts to prise Van Dijk away now Southampton have finally resolved their managerial change with Mauricio Pellegrino replacing Claude Puel.
However Bournemouth have stolen ahead in the race for Ake.

Sandro, meanwhile, has told Juventus he wants to leave for Chelsea.
Juve chief executive Beppe Marotta rejected Chelsea’s initial bid of £55.2m although he told the Brazilian left-back he would not stand in his way if the price was right.
The Italian champions will make a healthy profit on the 26-year-old who cost £23m when he signed from Porto two years ago.

Sandro started out in Brazil with Atletico Paranaense before a year at Santos and an £8m move to Porto in 2011.
Chelsea are prepared to increase their offer and show backing for manager Conte who has become concerned at the lack of activity at the start of what he hoped would be a big summer of recruitment at Stamford Bridge.
The fee will smash the £50m Chelsea paid for striker Fernando Torres in 2011 and will eclipse the £47.5m British record fee for a defender paid by Manchester City to Everton for John Stones last year.
Sandro is a strong and attack-minded left-back who will compete for a place with Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea confident of signing Alex Sandro despite PSG competition

Chelsea remain confident of signing Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, despite facing competition from Paris Saint-Germain.

Juventus are holding out for a world record fee for a defender of £60 million for Sandro, who Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has made one of his priority targets.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is leading the club’s negotiations with Juve, but is unlikely to find the Italians willing to drop the price.

Juve’s position over the fee is strengthened by the fact big-spending PSG have also shown an interest in Sandro.

Contrary to reports in Italy, Manchester City are not chasing Sandro but Chelsea still face having to meet Juve’s valuation to get their man.

The 26-year-old is keen on the prospect of a move to Chelsea, but is unlikely to hand in a transfer request to try to force a deal.

A source close to Sandro said: “Chelsea are currently the favourites, but Juventus will not drop their price and there is other interest. The player is relaxed and will just wait to see what happens.”

Chelsea are optimistic they will eventually find an agreement for Sandro, as they have done for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

It is understood Chelsea have clinched a £35m deal for Bakayoko with supporters now just waiting for an announcement.

Chelsea are also preparing to confirm that Willy Caballero has agreed to join the club on a free transfer as deputy to first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The Blues will re-open contract talks with Courtois when he returns for pre-season training next month, despite the 25-year-old’s agent admitting he is in close contact with Real Madrid.

Christophe Henrotay said: “Of course Thibaut is of interest to the big clubs, including the latest Champions League winner.

“He’s someone who helps you win games, titles. I meet regularly those in charge at Real Madrid, and Thibaut’s case has come up. My role is to keep him updated on the situation.”

Conte wants to build a squad capable of playing in at least two formations this season, as he attempts to guard against opponents working out his 3-4-3 approach.

That is why Sandro, who can play left-back, left wing-back and as a left winger is seen as such a valuable signing to the Italian.

Chelsea signed Marcos Alonso for £23m last summer and the Spaniard performed well at left wing-back, but Sandro is more versatile and is rated one of the best left-sided players in the world.

Director Marina Granovskaia has been in negotiations with Juve for the past week, but a further set of talks are scheduled for Monday which Chelsea hope could provide a breakthrough.

Conte had become frustrated at the lack of progress over signings, but will presumably be heartened that Chelsea appear to be closing in on some significant business ahead of the 47-year-old and his players returning for pre-season training on July 10.

The future of Chelsea target Alex Sandro is expected to become clearer on Monday following a fresh round of talks regarding the Juventus left-back.

As reported by Telegraph Sport, Chelsea are aiming to clinch a hat-trick of transfer deals worth £125million for Sandro, central defender Antonio Rudiger and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this week.

Negotiations over Sandro are planned for Monday, when Chelsea hope to make a breakthrough in their bid to sign the Brazilian.

Juventus are fighting to try to keep Sandro with the offer of a new contract worth £76,000-a-week to stay in Italy, but Chelsea can better that by paying him over £100,000-a-week.

Paris Saint-Germain have also shown an interest in Sandro and can pay more than Juve, but the will of the player is likely to be key.

Sources close to Sandro have confirmed he is interested in the prospect of moving to the Premier League with Chelsea and believe the Blues hold a slight advantage over their rivals.

Monday’s talks should provide a clearer picture of where Sandro is likely to play this season, with Chelsea needing to pay a club record £60m to secure his signature.

A deal worth in the region of £30m has been settled between Chelsea and Roma for Rudiger, with the player’s personal terms also agreed. The Germany international is now scheduled to complete his switch following medical examinations this week.

Bakayoko’s £35m move to Chelsea inched further forwards over the weekend, as the 22-year-old appeared to return to Monaco to say farewell to the club and manager Leonardo Jardim.

The arrival of Bakayoko is expected to signal the £40m departure of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, while Atletico Madrid are in talks to re-sign Diego Costa with Chelsea confident of landing Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

Chelsea have also decided that highly-rated midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be allowed out on loan this season, sparking interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Brighton and Newcastle.

Chelsea have indicated they are willing to pay a club-record £60 million to land Juventus left-back Alex Sandro.

Fresh talks regarding Sandro’s future took place on Monday and it is essentially now down to the player whether or not he will move to Stamford Bridge.

Juventus are willing to give Sandro a new contract to stay in Italy, but Chelsea are prepared to better their offer and meet the valuation placed on the 26 year-old.

Chelsea are hopeful that will be enough to secure Sandro’s signature, but they are still waiting to hear whether or not the player will tell Juventus that he wants to move to England. Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.

Should Chelsea complete a £60m deal for Sandro, then it will eclipse the £50m they paid for Fernando Torres in 2011, although Chelsea are aiming to break their transfer record twice this summer.

Antonio Conte has told the Blues that they must re-sign Romelu Lukaku at any price – even if it means meeting Everton’s £100m valuation. Having told Diego Costa he is not part of his plans by text message, Chelsea head coach Conte is desperate to land Lukaku and is confident the 24 year-old can live up to any price tag.

Conte tried to sign Lukaku for Juventus during the Belgian’s first spell at Chelsea and believes he perfectly fits into his favoured systems of play, as either a lone striker or part of a front two.

Chelsea are in negotiations with Atletico Madrid regarding a return to Spain for Costa and are expected to step up their bid to sign Lukaku soon.

Everton have valued Lukaku at £100m, insisting they will not accept any less, but that has not scared off Conte who has made it clear to Chelsea that he wants the player at any cost.
