OTAMENDI UPDATE

Manchester City are interested in signing Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi but they are not offering Eliaquim Mangala as part of the deal, according to Sky sources.

Reports had emerged that City would allow Mangala to move to the Mestalla on loan as a makeweight.

Otamendi has a release clause of £35.5 million and sources are telling us that the deal for Otamendi is progressing.

Nicolas Otamendi's move from Valencia to Man City hits snag

Valencia have told Manchester City they want more money for Nicolas Otamendi’s proposed transfer to go through, according to Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Balague believes a deal had been in place for a fee of £28.4m plus France international Eliaquim Mangala being sent on loan to the Spanish team.

Mangala has impressed since the season started, however, and Manuel Pellegrini has decided he wants to keep the 24-year-old in his squad.

With the terms of the agreement changing, Valencia are understood to have responded by saying they now want a higher fee for Argentina defender Otamendi.

The former Porto player – who moved to the Mestalla in February last year – has a release clause of £35.5m.

Otamendi is thought to be in Manchester having already agreed personal terms with City and is refusing to train or play for Valencia in a bid to force through a move to England.

Man City set to sign £31m Argentine defender

Manchester City are set to complete a deal for Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi in the coming hours.

The Valencia centre-back will join the Premier League side on a five-year deal after impressing in La Liga last season.

Otamendi, who has 25 caps for Argentina, is expected to cost City around £31million, but a considerable portion of that will be written off as Valencia still owe City over the signing of striker Alvaro Negredo.

OTAMENDI NEWS 'SHORTLY'

Valencia coach Nuno says there should be some news on Nicolas Otamendi's move to Manchester City shortly.

"I understand that you will want to talk about Otamendi, it's a current topic, but I ask you to respect this press conference, because the game is very important. The level in training is very good and gives us hope for tomorrow. The players are solely focused on the opponent.

"With respect to Otamendi, that's a topic that the club are taking care of. Shortly we will know what happens, but my job is tomorrow's game. We're very excited and tomorrow is another step."

He added: "Until there is something concrete we can't do anything about signing a new player. The club are able to do it, but we are counting on those we have already and they are transmitting confidence."

Nicolas Otamendi’s proposed move from Valencia to Manchester City appears to be edging closer.

Sky sources understand the player has agreed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Otamendi's release clause is £35million but it is thought the fee under discussion is between £24million and £32million.
