Chelsea are understood to be waiting for the French international midfielder to accept the terms they have offered.Once manager Antonio Conte gets his man it is believed they will be prepared to allow Serbian enforcer Matic to leave Stamford Bridge.
Reds boss Jose Mourinho has been an admirer of the 28-year-old from when he played a key role in the United manager's title win at Chelsea in 2015.
Matic, however, suffered in the post-title slump the following season that eventually led to Mourinho's departure in December 2015.He rediscovered his form last season to help Chelsea regain the crown under Conte.
Mourinho believes the powerful midfielder, valued at around £40m, can still provide a physical presence to United's engine room.
