Liverpool are still hopeful of reaching an agreement with Roma for Mohamad Salah but the Italian club is determined to hold on for more than £35 million. The Merseyside club is ready to break its current transfer record to land the winger and the Italian club’s Sporting Director Monchi has confirmed the bid from Merseyside.
He also admitted a sale is possible, although the most recent talks stalled over the price for the 24-year-old.Liverpool continue to seek a conclusion as manager Jurgen Klopp hopes to add new faces prior to his players’ return to pre-season training in early July. A first offer of £28 million was rejected.
“For Salah there is an offer from an English club but the price will be set by Roma, not the buyers," said Monchi.
“As I've said before, Roma is not a supermarket. Roma is a team that will represent Italy in Europe.
"We came second in Serie A and our idea is to keep as good a team as possible.
"At the same time no club exists that does not sell players."
There are suggestions emanating from Egypt and Italy that Salah is determined to make the move to Merseyside having learned of Liverpool’s offer.
Earlier this week, one of Egypt’s most famous ex-players – the former Tottenham striker Mido – suggested it was only a matter of time before the ex-Chelsea winger headed to Anfield.
“Salah will definitely move to Liverpool,” said Mido.
“It’s just a matter of time.”
“Liverpool’s style of play suits Salah perfectly and Klopp’s style suits him.”
Liverpool first tried to sign Salah two years ago when he was at Basel. Instead he joined Chelsea for £11 million.
Despite the setback of the Virgil Van Dijk furore last week, Liverpool will be among the most active in the transfer market over the next few months.
