Manchester United transfer news: Nicolas Gaitan in talks over Old Trafford move, reveals agent



Benfica forward Nicolas Gaitan is in talks over a summer move to Manchester United, according to his agent.

The 27-year-old Argentine was first linked with a move to Old Trafford during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure and, two managers on, United may finally be getting their man.

Speaking to Portuguese publication A Bola, Gaitan’s agent has claimed that Louis van Gaal’s side are in negotiations with Benfica over a move for the forward.

“Everything is possible,” Jose Irribarran told A Bola. “There’s a negotiation pending with Manchester United.”

“The player wants everything to go as smoothly as possible, We’re waiting for an answer from the vice-president. I can’t really say anything else.”

Should Gaitan arrive, it would represent United’s second attacking foray into the transfer market following the acquisition of Memphis Depay from PSV.

Van Gaal with continue his pursuit of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, having had an initial offer of £30 million rejected by the Spanish giants, while goalkeeper David de Gea has put his £2.75m mansion up for sale amid reports that a move to the Bernabeu is moving ever closer.
