Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will hold board meeting to discuss his future after FA Cup final

Arsene Wenger says an announcement on his future is likely to be made following an Arsenal board meeting to be held after the FA Cup final.

The Gunners boss has confirmed his position will be discussed with the club's hierarchy after the clash with Chelsea at Wembley on May 27, along with summer transfer business and ongoing contract talks with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

But Wenger refused to discuss the continued uncertainty over his job ahead of their final Premier League game of the season against Everton on Sunday, with his contract set to expire this summer.

The Frenchman said: "I cannot tell you (about my future). The most important thing is to win on Sunday and what happens to me after can wait. I'm here to serve the club.

"I think the board meeting is after the FA Cup final. I will be there. At the moment I think we should focus on the short-term; on the last game and the cup final.

"There are lots of different aspects of a football club that have to be discussed at a board meeting and one of them will be the manager's future, as well as the players that have to come in, the contracts and all of that. You don't miss problems in a board meeting."

When asked whether there will be an announcement in the weeks after that meeting, Wenger said: "Yeah, of course."

Ozil and Sanchez have been involved in protracted talks over new deals, with their contracts to expire in 2018, but Wenger insists they do not carry the demeanour of players that want to leave.

"Maybe one day I might be able to speak about that, but I don't question their determination and focus because every game they turn up with strong performances," Wenger said.

"First of all they're under contract and they behave like they want to be at the club, be in the champions League. They don't behave like players who don't want to be at the club."

Wenger is staying. Club is committed to him, the one percent doubt is if Wenger changes his mind which he won't as it leaves club in lurch.

Arsene Wenger's future will not be decided by the result of the FA Cup final.

Arsenal now fully expect Wenger to stay and sign a new two-year contract regardless of the result at Wembley.

The announcement could come as early as next week with the club fully committed to him staying with a behind-the-scenes reshuffle.

Arsenal will hold a board meeting next week which is expected to ratify the decision and even a bad result against Chelsea at Wembley will not change the mindset.

It comes down to Wenger’s future not being decided on the result of 90 minutes after 20 years in charge of the club.

Chelsea are red-hot favourites, Arsenal underdogs and are missing captain Laurent Koscielny and have missed out on the Champions League, having finished fifth.

But there is still a view that Wenger has been remarkably loyal, consistent and they believe that with the right changes at the club they can challenge again.

The new set-up would see a role overseeing contracts, logistics and even pooling together medical information to streamline support for Wenger, but it is highly unlikely to be a high-profile appointment and would not be a director of football.

There could also be some changes in the coaching staff even though Wenger is fiercely loyal to his men just as he has been outspoken against a director of football.

But there appears to have been a compromise and although there has been a two year contract on table since October there is now a real move to get it sorted and signed.

It comes at a time with majority shareholder, US tycoon Stan Kroenke, reaffirming his position that he is at the club for the long term and to win trophies after rebuffing a big offer Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov.

Missing out on the Champions League for the first time in nearly 20 years will not have the same impact financially as in recent seasons when they were under pressure to pay for the Emirates stadium.

It is believed Arsenal would budget for around a £20m drop from missing out on the Champions League because of lost revenue and prize money which would be offset against not playing the players a top four bonus.

Arsenal are refusing to confirm that Arsene Wenger has agreed to stay for another two years.

Wenger is believed to have agreed the extension with Stan Kroenke on Monday ahead of Tuesday's board meeting.

The club are expected to make an official announcement on Wednesday.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has agreed a new two-year contract, extending his 21-year reign at the club.

Wenger and club owner Stan Kroenke met on Monday to determine the Frenchman's future, with the decision relayed to directors at a Tuesday board meeting.

Arsenal are planning to make an official announcement on Wednesday.

The Gunners were fifth in the Premier League this season, the first time they have finished outside the top four since the Frenchman joined in 1996.

They finished 18 points behind champions Chelsea, but beat the Blues 2-1 to win the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday.

Wenger's contract was set to finish at the end of the current campaign.
