Theo Walcott: Everton forward having Southampton medical before loan move



Everton forward Theo Walcott is having a medical at Southampton before a season-long loan move.

The 31-year-old is struggling to figure in Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti's plans and his former club have made an approach about a loan deal.

Walcott, who has played for England 47 times, started his career at Southampton before moving to Arsenal in 2006.

Everton signed him from the Gunners in a £20m deal in January 2018.

Southampton are keen on adding a wide player or midfielder to their squad and at least two other Premier League clubs have enquired about Walcott, but he is believed to be keen on a return to the south coast.

The arrival of Walcott would add experience to their youthful squad and depth to Saints' wide options.

Southampton's Argentine striker Guido Carrillo, 29, has moved to Spanish side Elche on a free transfer as they look to make financial room for any potential deal for Walcott.

They are also hoping to let Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt, 26, and Moroccan winger Sofiane Boufal, 27, leave on transfer deadline day.

English goalkeeper Angus Gunn, 24, could also be allowed to leave.

Theo Walcott has successfully completed his medical at Southampton, according to Sky Sports. It’s now a scramble to get the paperwork completed in time.

Theo Walcott’s career has come full circle with the Everton winger rejoining Southampton 14 years after leaving his boyhood club.

The 31-year-old was in the final year of his Everton contract and his only start for Carlo Ancelotti’s in-form team this season was the Carabao Cup second-round win against Salford. Having completed the signing of Ben Godfrey from Norwich on deadline day, and moved for a new goalkeeper to compete with Jordan Pickford, Everton accepted Southampton’s offer of a loan deal with wages split between the two clubs.

Walcott earns a basic £110,000-a-week at Everton and also cost a £20m fee when signing for Sam Allardyce from Arsenal in January 2018. The winger, who has had an underwhelming spell at Goodison Park, left Southampton in January 2006, having risen through the club’s academy to make his first team debut at 16.
