Transfer news: Yaya Sanogo leaves Arsenal for Crystal Palace on loan



Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has joined Premier League rivals Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old has only played six times for the Gunners this season, but did manage his first competitive goal for the club in their 2-1 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.

Sanogo joined Arsenal from Auxerre at the start of last season but made limited appearances and most of his impact came in their victorious FA Cup run, albeit without him breaking his goalscoring duck.
He will hope to add firepower to a Palace squad that has scored only 22 goals in 21 Premier League games so far this season - their leading scorer is midfielder Mile Jedinak with five.

Sanogo is Alan Pardew's first signing since taking over at Selhurst Park last week, and he said:

“He’s a young player with tremendous promise, somebody that I have tracked personally and this club has too so that fitted well.

“We have given him an opportunity, he needs to play more games and I think he’s ready for that and he proved that at Arsenal.

It’s tough to get in their team but he’s closer to the starting action with us.”

And the player admitted moving to south London appealed to him as he was looking to get more playing time after struggling behind Olivier Giroud and the other offensive options at the Emirates.

He said: “When the Arsenal manager spoke with me about Crystal Palace I was very happy because I want to play more games.  

"I think Palace are a good team, I watched the game against Tottenham and it was a great performance from the guys.

I hope I can help the club have a successful second half of the season.”

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo is set to leave the club on loan during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old France youth international joined as a free agent in 2013 after his contract expired at French side Auxerre.

But he has scored only one goal in 19 appearances, eight of them starts.

Sanogo is likely to be sent to another Premier League club rather than moving overseas.

Arsenal are keen for the 6ft 4ins forward to get more game time and build confidence.

His chances have been limited by the return to fitness of Olivier Giroud, while Gunners manager Arsene Wenger also has Danny Welbeck, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Chuba Akpom at his disposal in attack.

Transfer news: Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo set to sign loan deal with Bordeaux

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo appears to be on the cusp of joining Bordeaux on loan for the rest of the season.

The France U21 international joined the Gunners from Ligue 1 side Auxerre in 2013 but has struggled to make an impact, making just eight starts.

Manager Arsene Wenger had high hopes for the 21-year-old after a strong showing in pre-season but he has scored just one goal in six appearances this term.

Bordeaux, who are sixth in France’s top division, have been in discussions with the North London club and Sanogo’s representatives for several days.

And their president Jean-Louis Triaud told French radio Soir de Foot (or ‘Football Evening’): “He wants to come to us – it’s a certainty.

"We are working on Sanogo’s arrival and the goal is to have him available for the Monaco game on Sunday.

“We asked for Arsenal to keep us informed. They have given me a response date of either Tuesday or Wednesday and I have explained to them that I would prefer Tuesday.”

Sanogo began his youth career at Les Ulis in the Paris suburbs, before moving south-east to Auxerre as a 13-year-old in 2006.

Sanogo has represented France at every level from U16s to U21s and has eight caps and five goals for the latter.

Reports suggest the French U21 Sanogo has listened to Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and will join another Premier League side, should he receive any offers.

French sports daily L'Equipe are reporting that Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo will now join Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season.

And that is because the north London club's head coach Arsene Wenger has decided that the France Under-21 international would be better served moving to Selhurst Park than either Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux or Aston Villa.
