MONK: BONY CAN WIN CITY THE TITLE

Swansea City boss Garry Monk insists Wilfired Bony could win Manchester City the title but warned the Premier League champions they must meet the Swans' valuation of the Ivory Coast international for any deal to be completed.

Talks are ongoing between the two clubs over a fee with Sky sources saying personal terms have been agreed with the player. Bony's agent also told Sky Sports News HQ he believed a deal would be wrapped up in a 'matter of days'. However, Monk warned City they will have to stump up plenty of cash to land their man.

“Wilfried could well be the difference in the title race, that’s what City see in him," Monk said.

“I can see why their interest is there, he gets you goals. He can improve on certain things but the bottom line is he is a goalscorer and it’s obviously what they want him for.

“But, in terms of money, Wilfried has to be up there. You look at guys like Romelu Lukaku and the money they went for. Compare their contributions with Bony’s, it’s pretty much a no brainer.

“I think the club is very clear on what he is worth and I can see why the club are holding out for the figure they are holding out for. If they haven’t quite met that valuation, and that’s what the situation must be, otherwise I am sure the deal would have been done, Huw will wait for it and quite rightly so. I assure you Bony is worth it.”

Another update on Manchester City's ongoing pursuit of Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony, and we understand that the Premier League champions are in no rush to get a deal done as the Ivorian cannot play for a few weeks due to his Africa Cup of Nations commitments with his country.

The north-west outfit have offered the Swans £25m up front with more in add-ons to enable the South Wales outfit to replace Bony in this month's transfer window.

However, there is also no firm evidence that Swansea want to spend as they say they want to keep hold of fellow forward Bafetimbi Gomis.

Manchester City must wait a little longer before completing the signing of Swansea striker Wilfried Bony.

Swansea paid Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem £12m for the Ivory Coast international but he is now valued in the region of £30m.

The exact fee to be paid remains a stumbling block but Sky Sports News HQ have spoken to sources at the two clubs and both remain keen to see the deal go through.

City are in no rush to complete the deal though, with Bony away this country at the Africa Cup of Nations for at least the next three weeks.

Garry Monk’s side are in a strong negotiating position, with Bony having signed a contract extension to keep him at the Liberty Stadium until 2018 only seven weeks ago.

Bony has scored 34 goals in 70 appearances for Swansea since he moved to south Wales in July 2013.

City manager Pellegrini says he does intend to sign a striker – but would not confirm it is Bony.

"I don't talk about rumours. We are going to replace Alvaro Negredo because it was the decision that we've taken that we're going to sell him," he said.

"We said we'd see in December if we need another striker. We need another striker so we are going to find which is the best player to play here."

Negredo's loan move to Valencia, which is due to become permanent in the summer, left City with only three experienced strikers for the first part of the season.

City's transfer dealings are complicated by the restrictions placed on them after they failed to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

The club's outlay across the summer and winter transfer windows cannot exceed £50m once money from sales is taken into account.

Paying £30million for Bony would take them over that but Pellegrini believes selling Negredo will give them leeway without having to let go of other players.

He said: "We must be in FFP so I don't think we are going to spend a lot. We sell already Alvaro Negredo so we have some money to spend."

Wilfried Bony: Swansea agree £30m deal with Man City

Swansea City have agreed a fee in the region of £30m to sell striker Wilfried Bony to Premier League champions Manchester City.

Swansea manager Garry Monk previously said it would take an "astronomical" fee to prise the Ivory Coast striker, 26, away from the Liberty Stadium.

He was the Premier League's top scorer in the calendar year of 2014 with 20 goals.

Bony joined Swansea for a club-record £12m from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

The fee breaks the Welsh club record sale of £15m that Liverpool paid Swansea for midfielder Joe Allen in August 2012.

Bony, who scored an injury-time equaliser for Swansea against QPR on New Year's Day, is on Africa Cup of Nations duty with the Ivory Coast for at least the next three weeks.

But the Ivory Coast international's agent Francis Kacou said on Wednesday, 7 January that the deal should be completed soon.

Man City were without injured strikers Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko for the festive period and manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to add further depth to his squad.

The Chilean, 61, had indicated that he was not looking to do serious business in the January transfer window.

The club were hit with Uefa sanctions last year for breaching financial fair play rules which included a spending cap of £49m, plus any money raised from transfer fees.

They spent around £48m in the summer on Eliaquim Mangala, midfielder Fernando, and goalkeeper Willy Caballero, although sold Jack Rodwell to Sunderland for a reported £10m and midfielder Javi Garcia joined Zenit St Petersburg for £13m.

But with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham all reported to be interested in Bony, it is the Premier League champions who have moved quickest to bolster their attacking options.

Transfer news: Wilfried Bony deal not complete, according to Manchester City

Manchester City have said the deal to sign Swansea Wilfried Bony has not been completed, despite reports to the contrary by the Ivory Coast Football Federation.

Bony is currently on international duty with his country at the Africa Cup of Nations and the Ivory Coast looked to have broken the news of his transfer.

But Sky Sports News HQ understands the deal has not yet been finalised, with a few final points yet to be agreed before the £30m move can be completed.

City have confirmed the transfer is not a done deal but Bony is expected to become their player before the end of Wednesday as Manuel Pellegrini looks to bolster his attacking options.
