Dzeko confirms City talks



Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has confirmed that he is in talks with the Premier League club about signing a new deal at the Etihad.

The 28-year-old Bosnia & Herzegovina international, who scored 26 goals last season,

was speaking at a press conference ahead of City's International Champions Cup clash with Liverpool in New York on Wednesday.

Dzeko, who arrived at the Etihad in a £27million deal from Wolfsburg in January 2011,

is expected to start up front against Liverpool alongside Stevan Jovetic, who scored two of City's goals in Sunday's 5-1 win over AC Milan in Pittsburgh.

He said: "I can only say that I am happy at City and at the moment we are talking about a new contract

and we will see what happens, but the main thing is that I am happy at City."

Edin Dzeko admits to being the subject of interest this summer, but says he is discussing a new contract at Manchester City.

The Bosnian striker has entered the final 12 months of his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.

City are eager to talk terms, though, after seeing Dzeko play a pivotal role in their 2013/14 Premier League title success.

The 28-year-old netted 26 times in all competitions last season, the first time in his three-and-a-half years in England that he has broken through the 20-goal barrier.

Dzeko has not always been a regular starter at City, but he is enjoying his time with the club and is confident an extension will be agreed in the near future.

He told kicker-Sportmagazin: “I am very happy in England. I am enjoying it.

“I am in talks about a new deal. I am expecting to sign on.

“I have been the subject of some enquiries, but I knew I wanted to stay on at Manchester City.”

Dzeko has also been discussing a possible return to former employers Wolfsburg at some stage in his career.

He admits such a move is unlikely, but is ruling nothing out.

He added: “Anything could happen.

“I had a great time at Wolfsburg and it is a club that I owe a lot. But a return to Wolfsburg is not realistic at the moment.”

Premier League: Manuel Pellegrini says Edin Dzeko will sign Manchester City deal



Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed striker Edin Dzeko is on the verge of extending his contract with the club.

Former City manager Roberto Mancini signed the Bosnia international from Wolfsburg in a £27m deal in 2011.

Despite often seeing other strikers start in front of him, Dzeko has scored 46 goals in 109 Premier League games for City, playing a key role in helping them win last year’s title.

Dzeko laid on City’s opener for David Silva in the 2-0 win at Newcastle on Sunday and was praised after the game by boss Pellegrini.

“He finished last season playing very well and was one of the best players in this game," Pellegrini said.

"He worked hard and won a lot of aerial duels. It was a complete game from him.

"It's not strange for me to see him play like that - he finished last season playing very well. He has grown. He's a team player.

“I'm very happy for him. That's why he is renewing his contract here - he has a very important duty in our team.

But I repeat, Edin finished last season playing the same way as he has started.”

Pellegrini added: "I don't think it's 100 per cent finished - but yes he will renew his contract. He's a very important player for us.

"It is important that we have four top strikers because we have so many games in four competitions."

A deft back-heel from Dzeko allowed Silva to give City a 38th minute lead at St James' Park before substitute Sergio Aguero added a second in injury-time.
