Chelsea transfer news: Kurt Zouma handed No5 shirt for next season - but Jose Mourinho still wants Raphael Varane
Chelsea have dropped their biggest hint yet that Kurt Zouma will be part of the squad this season rather than leaving on loan by giving him the No5 shirt.
Zouma joined from St Etienne for £12.5m in January but spent the second half of the last campaign back at the French club and has already been targeted by Monaco and Sunderland over a year-long deal.
Mourinho has been exploring the possibility of signing Real Madrid star Raphael Varane, with the France centre-back unhappy at the Bernabeu where his wages of £25,000-a-week are lower than most of the rest of the squad.
He is in talks with Madrid and Mourinho is monitoring the situation to see if there’s a chance of buying him.
