Arsenal in talks to re-sign Carlos Vela, says Real Sociedad chief



The Gunners are keen to bring the Mexican back to north London, and he would be available for just £3.2 million, though the striker himself hopes to remain in Spain

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has revealed that Arsenal are in talks to bring Carlos Vela back to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Mexico international made a permanent switch to the San Sebastian outfit in 2012,

though the Gunners included a buy-back clause in his sale which allows them to re-sign Vela for a fee of just £3.2 million.

And while Sociedad are keen to keep both the 25-year-old striker and goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, a £7.3m target for Barcelona,

Aperribay admits the club could lose the pair, even though Vela would prefer to stay.

"We are talking with great clubs like Barcelona and Arsenal. Things are really difficult, but nothing is finished," he told Euskal Irrati Telebista.

"We are in a difficult moment if we want some players to continue at Real Sociedad next year, but we'll try to complete our squad in the best way.

"We understand what Arsenal represent and what Barcelona represent.

There aren't deadlines with them, just talks, and we are looking at what is best for us.

"Arsenal have told us they are interested in the player (Vela) and we have to think on that.

"The player wants to continue here, in San Sebastian, and this is an important point for us.

Real Sociedad and Arsenal reach principle agreement over ?11m transfer of Carlos Vela

Real Sociedad have reached a principle agreement with Arsenal over the transfer of Carlos Vela,
where the Basque side will acquire the remaining 50% of the player’s right from the Gunners for an estimated ?11 million.



According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Real Sociedad will pay the ?11 million, in addition to the ?3 million paid for the past two seasons,

for a full transfer amount of ?14 million, ?1 million less than the previously agreed amount of ?15 million, despite the player’s release clause being a full ?30 million.

The two side’s are now ironing out the details after Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay travelled to London


after Arsenal threatened to activate their ?4.2 million buy-back option for the Mexican.

Vela has made it clear that his desire is to remain in San Sebastian, having already agreed to a new contract with La Real,

keeping him at Anoeta until 2018 and raising his salary from his current ?2.5 million per season.

The deal is expected to be announced as soon as next week.

Carlos Vela has committed his future to Real Sociedad, after the Basque club agreed to pay Arsenal ?11 million
for the remaining 50% of his playing rights, that they retained, plus ?5 million in additional variables.



Mexican forward Carlos Vela will remain at Anoeta, at the very least, until June 2018.

Though it had seemed that Arsenal were keen to take him back, quite the opposite has transpired and Real Sociedad will retain his services for four more years,
having agreed to pay the London club ?11 million for the 50% rights they retained, plus a reported additional sum of ?5 million in variables,
based upon future objectives achieved. The new contract also includes a minimum release clause valuation of ?30 million.

The most crucial part of the complex negotiations that have been taking place over the last month,
has been the willingness of Carlos Vela to remain in La Liga and with Real Sociedad, where he feels completely settled and is enjoying his key role in the side.
A second consecutive season competing in Europe, has also been a decisive factor for the player.

French forward Antoine Griezmann had also revealed the agreement, during a press conference with his national team,
explaining that Carlos Vela “is calm, he’s already signed with La Real and he seems happy with that.”
