Luke Shaw almost a done deal - Mathieson



Manchester United are closing on a deal for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

The Reds are 95 per cent there with the move according to our reporter Stuart Mathieson.

And now the new management structure is sorted with Louis van Gaal appointed boss and Ryan Giggs his assistant, the path should be cleared for Shaw to sign.

In his weekly Talking United interview, Mathieson also said that Van Gaal's contacts in Holland could see some exciting young Dutch players come into the frame.

Luke Shaw: Manchester United to resume talks with Southampton



Manchester United are set to resume talks with Southampton on Friday over the transfer of defender Luke Shaw, reports BBC Radio Solent.
Saints have already turned down a £27m offer for the 18-year-old left-back.
That position had been one of the priority areas for David Moyes before he was sacked by United last month.
Current first-choice Patrice Evra recently signed a new contract but the club are still searching for a long-term replacement for the Frenchman.
The moves comes a day after Liverpool came close to agreeing a deal with Southampton and England striker Rickie Lambert.
Saints will not stand in the 32-year-old's way if an acceptable offer comes in for him.
Lambert and Southampton team-mate Adam Lallana will hope to be involved in England's World Cup warm-up match with Peru on Friday, but Shaw will miss the game through illness.
Lallana has also been linked with a move away from St Mary's, with Liverpool interested in Southampton's captain.
Southampton themselves are searching for a new manager following the departure of boss Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham.
Shaw is preparing for the World Cup with England and is battling alongside Leighton Baines for a starting position in Roy Hodgson's side.

Luke Shaw told Southampton he wanted Man Utd move last month

Southampton's England full-back Luke Shaw told Saints he wanted to join Manchester United on the final day of the Premier League season.
The 18-year-old defender had spoken to the club's hierarchy at an event held at a hotel after the 1-1 home draw with United on 11 May.
By that time, United had already made a £27m offer for the left-back.
Southampton will not consider allowing any more of their players to leave until a new manager is appointed.
England striker Rickie Lambert has already been sold to Liverpool, while club captain Adam Lallana has been the subject of multiple bids from the Anfield club.
Saints hope to appoint a successor to former manager Mauricio Pochettino - who joined Tottenham in late May -
within the next 10 days, with former Dutch international Ronald Koeman a leading candidate for the post.


Shaw, though, has made his intentions clear.
The youngster had been asked to clarify his future quickly,
with England manager Roy Hodgson making it clear he wanted squad members to sort out proposed transfers before the World Cup begins on 12 June.
Southampton, however, will only sell if the circumstances are right.
