Leicester in talks with Islam Slimani over transfer from Sporting Lisbon

Leicester City are in advanced negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over a possible club record transfer deal for forward Islam Slimani, according to Sky sources.

Slimani scored 27 times for the Portuguese side last season and we understand he is keen on a move to the defending Premier League champions.

However, the clubs are some distance apart in terms of agreeing a transfer fee, with Sporting seeking £34m, which is more than Leicester are willing to pay.

West Bromwich Albion are monitoring the situation and may yet put in a bid of their own.

The 28-year-old Slimani is an Algerian international, who scored twice at the 2014 World Cup. He joined Sporting in 2013 and has made over 100 appearances for the club.

Leicester City officials are working hard in Portugal to complete deals for Adrien Silva and Islam Slimani before Wednesday’s deadline.

A new player is close to joining reigning Premier League champions Leicester City: they are very close to an agreement for Algerian striker Islam Slimani of Sporting CP.
The fee for the striker is 35 million: he will soon join Claudio Ranieri and Leicester in the Premier League.

The Algeria football Federation's Instagram page confirms that they have given Islam Slimani permission to go and have a medical at Leicester City.

Islam Slimani: Leicester City sign Sporting Lisbon forward



Leicester City have signed Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon for a fee believed to be a club-record £29m.

The 28-year-old forward, who has signed a five-year deal, left Algeria's training camp to have a medical with the Premier League champions.

He has been with Sporting since 2013 and scored 27 goals for the Portuguese side last season.

He also scored twice at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as Algeria reached the knockout stages for the first time.

Meanwhile, Foxes midfielder Gokhan Inler, 32, has joined Besiktas.
